I like that you're playing with none standard ratios. I tend to be afraid to get away from the 3:2 so thanks for reminding me to step out of my comfort zone.

Trendy Coffee Shop!
I think this one has potential, if you crop it differently. The right hand side is too distracting, the top part is just ugly and the bottom needs to be cut so she doesn't look pantsless.
Quick and dirty crop job in Paint, because I don't have PS.
It's still a bit blurry. On the other hand, uncropped, it reminds me of a Life & Leisure section front page photo, at least in the framing.
I don't know if that helped. :|

Pfft, pope, that shit is nothing, I had a bat who used to live in my window, between the glass and the screen.
He was fat and fuzzy and I named him Fat Louie.
That's pretty awesome, Sheri. But what about the time there was a bat INSIDE the building and I caught it in a cardboard box and released it outside where it could munch on bugs to its heart's delight? What about that, huh? I was really just happy that I could get close enough to take a clear picture of the bat. That was really fun!
Do you have any pics of Fat Louie? I'd love to see 'em.
Both iceland pics are fantastic. Also, the bat's adorable. But I LOVE LOVE LOVE the B&W. It's seemingly simplistic (ie - minimalist) with great textures, great basic tones (white, black, then grey) - I love it.
Cheers anable and pope, I did increase the contrast a fair bit, maybe a bit too far.
Jake, really like those first two, great composition.
An-D, the coffee shop could have been a good photo, but taken at 1/4 second it's pretty hard to avoid blur from camera shake. I try to avoid shooting handheld below about 1/60 where possible, if you use manual or shutter priority mode you can keep the shutter speed reasonable.
KillerCar, Pope: cheers, I felt a bit disappointed with the trip. The scenery was fantastic but the light was often poor and my visit was a bit of a whistle-stop tour so I'm glad I've got some stuff that people like out of it!
KC: I like the first shot the most, although I think you'd have a stronger composition by cropping the small detail off the bottom. The middle two are over sharpened, and the last has nice colours but I'm not sure about the composition, again it might be better to crop the two bright spots at the top and bottom right off.
Jake - Both of those are fantastic. Is the first one a picture of a giant wave? A very ominous image to me, regardless. The second one is great too. Blues, ftw.
Also, I need to get the fuck out and take some pictures.
KillerCar - I almost agree with Jake on #1 - but instead of cropping I would suggest trying to paint it out with black (or near-black, whatever the color is). If you crop it you'll lose the lower part of the leaf and consequently lose the narrowest part of the angle the leaf creates. I think that angle is part of the dynamism of the picture. I do also think that your comp is essentially a box with a V in it:
Code:
-------------
| \ / |
| \/ |
-------------
I think it might have been even more dynamic if you had tilted the camera so that the base of the leaf was in the bottom-left corner instead of dead-center and the leaf was opening diagonally instead of vertically, like so:
Code:
------------
| | |
| |___ |
------------
In my lame ascii diagrams the second looks like a square w/in a square, but I think it would look way more dynamic.
Oh lord, that was a real complicated way of saying a 45-degree rotation clockwise. Jeez I am a terrible communicator.
In other news, I LOVE the high-contrast, love the subject, and even more than that I double-love the waterdrops one.
The wave is a shot from Gullfoss, a waterfall. I'll post some more shots from there once I get round to looking at them.
Knifa: there's nothing particularly interesting about the composition of any of those shots, though they're not terrible either. Practice practice practice (read) practice practice is all I'd say right now.
A few more from Iceland, the last shot is a glacial lake, was one of the most amazing places I've ever been.
Also, I just noticed I've got a little series of architectureal shots from Reykjavik going on, although I'm not sure what I think about this kind of thing; a bit cheesy, no?
Gilrain - It's actually a series of little Christmas lights in a dark cabinet. Yay for modern art.
Jake - I vaguely remember seeing that before. I'll add it to the OP.
As for your photos, amazing, again. The first one isn't doing much for me, but the other three at great. I really like the sense of scale in 2 and 3. I think the triptych works well, cheese and all.
Here are a few ones...hopefully a smidge better than my last post (more thought put into these).
I editted two versions of this picture, one where I kind of just fixed up some things, sharpened it and said yay! The other one, I super saturated and loved how it turned out. I'll [img] the saturated one and leave the other one in just a link.
This is my friend's first time up on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Unfortunately, it was pretty hazy so it wasn't as impressive as it normally is...but its still pretty sweet.
And playing with focus:

Here's hoping I don't die of a panic attack on the way!
See you dudes in a few days.
