If the return of Todd had been related to Batman in someway, instead of Superboy punching meta-reality or whatever the hell nonsense-- if it had been a big huge conspiracy between say Ra's, Deathstroke and Lex Luthor-- it would have worked a lot better.

I think what Winnick is mad about is the fact that there was a good story in "Under the Hood". The mystery of the new Red Hood, the reveal of Jason Todd, and how he interacts with Batman were all interesting and well told. Everything after that was not. Some of that was written by Winnick though, but I would guess he blames that on editorial.

Well... see, I don't think Jason Todd's return bombed necessarily. I thought Under the Hood was actually pretty darn good. What I think bombed was the subsequent explanation for why Todd was back. Even if the explanation was terrible, I think we would have forgiven it if they made Todd an interesting, compelling character. Also I think temporarily morphing into a cannibal mutant squid hurt him too. God, that was just.... What the fuck was with that?

Honestly, I just love the idea of a character whose actual name is Batman Jones, and who, despite never going through a grueling years-long training process or losing a bunch of friends and family through tragic circumstances, is every bit as motivated and skilled as Batman. I feel like, under the right writer, there could be an interesting story there, showing that someone can be Batman, and not have a completely shitty life. But since he's appearing in a mini-series that's just killing time until Morrison can start his run, I'm sure Robin will just find his body in a dumpster or something.

Newsarama has a poll on who should be the new Batgirl, and so far Cassandra Cain is winning while Stephanie Brown is coming in at a close third. And of course, Babs is second.

I realize that movies and comics are different entities, but Batman and Robin was so bad, that it has pretty much given me the opinion that there shouldn't be a Batgirl at all. It was an incredible injustice that Alicia Silverstone, the hottie from Clueless, was a fat Batgirl. And it has scarred me for life.

The costume was just kind of unflattering. It's a shame that her career nosedived after that. Also, I'd love to see Batman Jones spring from nowhere and end up in the cowl.
