Hold your breath and count to fifteen mississippis. Try it out.

Fifteen seconds is a relatively long time in an RTS for one unit to kill another, provided it's not a super unit and they're not playing any silly fleet-of-foot games.

Different strokes for different folks I guess. I've played a lot of Total War style RTS so 15 seconds seems like a pretty brisk pace for me.

15 seconds average seems about the same as DoW1. I was hoping for under 10 but it's not like that's going to keep me from buying it. It still remains to be seen how the smaller scale of the game will play out, maybe the longer engagements are more fun with fewer units. Relic is still cashing in on the benefit-of-doubt account they opened up with Homeworld 2.

Actually I'd say Tyranids are capable of much growth and development, in fact, that's what makes them scary.
Purely in a physical, almost cancerous sense though. Psychologically nothing will ever change for the Tyranids, they will never be anything other than what they are now; and I think that is a scarier thought than their immediate threat. If they grow to encompass the entire galaxy, all that is left is a wasteland of unthinking, hungry biology.
Which is why they left their galaxy of origin.
Isn't it also speculated that they left their Galaxy of origin because something even more horrible is chasing them?

And that they are racing straight towards the psychic resonance on Terra for some reason

quote:

Actually, no. The C'tan just enslave everybody. They support sustainable consumption of sentient races. Oh, and they cut they warp off from the material world, so everybody is soulless.
Sustainable for a while. Didn't they effectively wipe out the galaxy once in the ancient past already? Life had to reform from the very basics.

This question is probably going to get me skewered, but here goes.

Have they upped the lethality of units in DoW2? I Relic's RTS games but it drives me crazy that they seem to be fighting with Nerf weapons. I'm not asking for it to be C&C but fights that resolve in a reasonable amount of time would be nice.
One of the previews (gamespy, I think) said the average engagement lasted around 15 seconds during their playtime.
now that will be something to watch

My eyes glazed over during most of DoW's CC fights
You guys remember prepatch Dark Crusade Flayed One battles?
funnily enough no, i dont.

but i think that's your point.
Well back then they had morale and also broke morale for all other units near them so it would result in squads of flayed ones clawing at eachother for minutes unable to kill one another and since necron shooting range is so short they would probably be feared too unable to pick off the other side's flayed ones.

that game sucked.

While it is somewhat goofy, I hope they include Rogue Trader era Space Marine armor for at least a hero if not for entire squads.

Why can't the Relic Super Pack include Soulstorm too. Dog gonnit. I want to buy Soulstorm for the beta but I want it bundled with other stuff, for the value.

Sort of, basically there used to be a lot more C'tan. When stocks of food ran low the c'tan ate each other. Then while the food stocks were replenishing, a race of psychic jellyfish from the warp came and began eating more folk.

So to survive the C'tan decided to hibernate until there was plenty of food around the milky way. And seeing as there are only 4 C'tan left they could probably survive near infinitely on just the Orks alone.

They're called enslavers, and I'm pretty sure they're a warp-based lifeform. They had the ability to dominate the minds of psykers, which thanks to the Old Ones pretty much populating every third planet with psychic life-forms, screwed things up pretty well. Then they started killing things for no adequately explained reason, so the C'tans food supply was greatly diminished.

And the C'tan didn't eat each other because food supply was low. If they're in that kind of danger, they can just eat stars, though it's really bland to them. They just started eating each other for shits and giggles. Well, sort of, the Deceiver convinced the Nightbringer that C'tan life force tasted the best, so he went berserk and started eating C'tan all over the place. The Eldar Laughing God tricked the Outsider into eating other C'tan (which suggests that they normally wouldn't do it, the Nightbringer was just an idiotic jerk), which drove him insane.

There isn't really any info on what the Void Dragon was like.

EDIT: Ninja'ed badly. This is what I get for reading a Lets Play while I'm typing this up.

I remember the huffing and puffing about whether the Laughing God and the Deceiver were one and the same; I'm guessing the eventual conclusion was that their stories are just too different for that to be the case?

Pretty much, yeah. You could make some arguments that they're the same, but there's a pretty strong assumption/indication that the Laughing God was around long before the Nightbringer had been bound to a physical body, which happened a fair ways before the Deceiver was bound.

However, what conclusive evidence there is states that they both, along with Tzeentch, are complete and utter dicks.

While we are talking lore, weren't the eldar actually a "failure" of a race? In that they weren't able to stop the necron's, so the old ones ended up creating the Orks instead?

Death Korps of Krieg

Can we make guard units look different? Like, based on their home worlds based on wargear or something.

You know Guard are coming sometime.

Well, sort of. The Eldar weren't created specifically for the purpose of fighting the Necrons and C'tan, so the fact that they did as well as they did is a testament to their prowess.

After all, when you're a psychic race created by psychic gods who depend on psychic technology, you're probably going to have some problems when presented with an army of soulless machine warriors (who at this point, are still sapient) armed with disintegrator guns on their basic infantry, and their equally soulless star-gods who can break reality into little pieces and stomp upon it without using psychic powers. Oh, and they eat stars.
