the last ubuntu release was seriously flaky, I think I'm over their hype

I haven't had a problem with it, and I've been using it on every computer I own since 6.06. In fact, this laptop has had the same install of Ubuntu (upgrading through the auto-updater) since 6.10.

I've got 8.04 in three different VMs, running on an 8.04 host.
The host's video card has been flaky as shit when rebooting, and each of the VMs will occasionally hard lock. Every once in a while keyboard input of any kind will cause your terminal window to close, which only a reboot seems to fix. And one of the VMs will walk off the pier every few weeks and just sound the PC speaker constantly until you hard reboot the instance

Weird.
Now that I think about it, my fileserver/VM host is still running one of the 7 releases, but that's only because it won't dist-upgrade automatically and I haven't logged into the host in a while, only the VMware GUI, the VMs themselves, and the ssh sessions that Unison opens to run backups. |
