If you have Fawkes with you, giant radscorps go down in a few seconds.

The first time I came across a Giant Radscorpion it scared the everloving shit out of me. I heard this scuttling but I couldn't see anything, so I kept running on exploring. I happened to turn around and it was RIGHT IN MY FACE.
I was looking for the entrance to the Lamplight caves when I noticed a couple giant radscorps in the distance. I start messing with them a bit before they finally spot me. They go running around some rocks and fall off my 'radar'. I'm looking around, shotgun at the ready. Nothing. Still nothing. What the hell?

I kinda shrug, figure they lost me and turn to start heading to the caves again when I take damage. I turn around and the both of them are right fucking there. There was no scuttling, no sound, no warning at all. Just two giant radscorps that are apparently ninjas.

Not Dukov.
Dukov doesn't care as long as there's a place to put it and I'm not even sure he's that particular. If you ask him he'll admit he had some ghoul chick as a fuck buddy for a while just to see what it was like.
I wonder how a ghoul girl would be in bed.
I imagine that she'd be kinda rough.
Pretty flaky.
I bet it'd be pretty fun. She looks like a monster so I doubt she'd be a prude about the really kinky things, maybe even involve a brahman.

This is the main reason I'm doing all the sidequests and exploring with my near-end save, instead of saving some for my next playthrough. The random giant scorps get too annoying otherwise and I lose interest in wandering the wastes following compass arrows.

I'm gonna have to beat this at some point. I think I may just blaze through it, I've spent so much time doing nothing in this game and I have other games to play. How far am I through this anyway?

Spoiler:

I love him so much.

So on my first playthrough it took until at least level 10 or so before I really ran into anybody with proper heavy weapons. I assumed it was a level scaling thing, and wasn't really bothered by it because I was small guns anyway.

On my second, though, I ran into a roving trio of raiders armed with two flamers and a missile launcher at level 2, right after leaving megaton for the first time. And further wanderings have shown this to be the norm, as I'm still not level 4 yet and have already run into another missile launcher raider, two more with flamers, and also a mutie brute with a minigun. It's not like I'm running through downtown DC or anything, either, I've just been going between megaton, tenpenny, and big town.

As hilarious as this is, it's making my unarmed-oriented character run through psycho, med-x, and stimpacks like candy. Expensive, expensive candy.
I had this happen too. Level 2, wandering near big town, run across a couple super mutants and one of them has a missile launcher.. me with a police baton. I managed to kill the first one by keeping a stand of trees between me and the missiles, all he had was a board with a nail through it.

So then I tackled the other dude.. dodging missiles left and right, got in his grill, and beat the snot out of him.

It cost me every one of the half-dozen stimpacks I'd collected, but I won fair and square.
I have a new, fun way of playing now. I go in unarmed, and work my way from weapon to weapon with limited ammo. If there's a guy with a missile launcher- it just gets way more fun.

Also, I decided to beat the Antagonizer and the Mechanist to death with my fists- skipping the quest. Saved everybody a little time, in the end.

Goddamn, I just feel so much more badass playing unarmed.

It would be nice if the expansion level thing were like that last sequence. Linearity in order to make a really fun experience is OK.

I think I'll be beating this tomorrow then. 50 hours and I want multiple playthroughs. This game was so worth it.

I've been thinking about my new character. I'm gonna have him main in unarmed with laser guns on the side because I used neither on this playthrough. I'm probably gonna have awesome sneaking powers and either level up lockpick or speech.

Obviously, this is gonna be a badguy playthrough. Megaton is gonna get blown up. I can't wait.

Funny thing about scorpions, is that the larger the Pedipalps (claws) the less potent the Venom injected subcutaneously via the scorpion's aculeus (stinger) tends to be.

So if this fact held true despite the radiation, the venom in radscorpions would be relatively non-lethal.

I keep scorpions...

With a stinger the size of a fucking Icepick and pincers that could sheer my head clean off I'd probably worry about the poison later.

But uh, nice observation. Fuck some one make a scorpion wrangling mod. I want to throw a saddle on that bitch and ride her clear across the wasteland.

God, that Knights of Cydonia mod would be fun.

I had the time (Thanks NATIK for the estimate), so I beat the game.

Spoiler:

I will be buying that shit when it drops.

Yep, I feel the same way, actually. What I missed the most were the individual location/quest-aware endings that Fallout 2 had. Would it have killed them to record a few more voice overs with things like, "After the ghouls took over Tenpenny tower, all hell broke loose... Blah blah blah." I mean, they could have just picked and chosen, left out some of the less impressive quests, like the Nuka-cola challenge, or whatever. Or have done it by towns and settlements, or something.

I don't know I didn't really feel like the ending wrapped up what *I* did. But then again, the whole main quest was pretty weak, yeah.

Well, my fears about sneaking and Fawkes were unfounded. I sneak around and she blasts the shit out of stuff, all while I remain hidden. It's WONDERFUL for sentry bots and giant rad scorpions.

I will NOT go back for the final sequence of the game yet. Exploring to do ... with my new lover.

Is there a way to modify xp scaling? Either via console or a mod?

I want to play on expert, but don't want to hit level 20 as I exit vault 101.

Still took me a while to get level 20 on expert without any of the additional +xp perks, xzzy.
