LOL WHAT?!? This happens a lot in games but I am a firm believer of play how you want, fuck the masses who say you have to be A,B,C or you dont get to raid.
if a Frostfire mage comes into my raids without 5/5 Ice Shards for 100% crit damage bonus, and takes 5/5 Improved Frostbolt or something retarded instead, I'm going to laugh him out of the group, "play how you want" or not.

I am a firm supporter of "play how you want, don't conform to cookie cutters just because they're cookie cutters", but there are limits. They are cookie cutter builds for a good reason.
This files under the "play how you want aslong as you're not being retarded" folder.
I agree Reverse. I would never remove anyone from a group or raid because they were not specced to my standards. I do not pay their monthly fee, I am sure as hell not gonna tell someone, you have to be x, y, and z specced or f you get out.
If you are not specced to do your role to the absolute best of your ability in a raid, sure, its your 15 dollars a month, but its also the other 24 people's $360 a month, and you're wasting theirs by not doing your role as well as you could be.

Yeah, if you're specced in a way that you do 200 dps less than if you were specced the way Dhalphir wants you to be specced, and you kill the boss regardless, but because you were doing 200 dps less it took a minute longer than it would've otherwise, MAN THAT GUY DESERVES TO DIE FUCKING PIECE OF SHIT WASTING EVERYONE'S TIME LIKE THAT!!!

However, if you come into a heroic I'm tanking and you aren't doing 1000 DPS then you're gone. I can't have 3 DPS doing 900 each, nothing is dying.

Or, you might wipe at 1% on the boss, and it could have been avoided by you doing that little amount more DPS.

The extra DPS isn't for times when you kill the boss regardless, its for times when you needed that extra bit to push you over the edge and it wasn't there.

If you're really wiping because one guy is doing 200dps less than he could if he was specced differently, you guys are nowhere near skilled or geared enough to be doing that content.

If you wipe at 1% on a boss that has 6 million health and the fight took approximately 5 minutes you'd have killed him with that 200 dps. If you take this farther and say instead of 1 guy its now 5 you wipe at 5%, take it even farther and you wipe at 15%.

The slippery slope has two sides. On one side, the shitbag who just has a terrible build, or is a poor player, or is undergeared to the point of unfairness (to the other raid members) is guilty of being a bad team player and doesn't deserve a spot on the team.

On the other side; the raid leader who silently and methodically plugs every name into wowarmory and compares each character's spec to his master list of approved builds, checks their armor and weaponry carefully and rules out anyone who hasn't completely exhausted the upgrades from the previous epoch of raid content - and hell, maybe make sure they are partly progressed into the current epoch too, wouldn't want an outer circle member or (God forbid) a PUGer to win a choice item that your inner circle doesn't have yet...

Yeah, that asshole is just as guilty of being a bad leader as the first guy is of being a bad team member. Neither one is better than the other.

Neither one is better than the other.

People do that? Wow. I fully agree with bringing your best raid spec to raids, but raid leaders checking out specs etc has always been part of the "why isn't this guy doing enough damage" process in my experience.

It's a huge problem on my server. Raid leaders putting together groups or filling slots will always check armory, and even party leaders forming groups for heroic dungeons have started doing this. Failing the armory check sometimes doesn't even warrant a negative response whisper, you are just left hanging.

-edit-

Er, the "master list of approved builds" was simply my logical conclusion following the slippery slope. I know of no such "master list". The idea is the important part, not the specifics: being a nazi about someone elses build makes you just as awful as the person whose build is poor.

man, I wish heroics pugs would armory people on my server. it would prevent radically undergeared tanks and hopefully the more retarded dps.

I went through Kara with my priest and there was this pally who was level 70 and had less than 6k health. She died so God damned much. In spite of everything I got more of a wife/girlfriend who has sleepwalked through the game without really learning how to play vibe from her (as opposed to a "purchased level 70 account vibe").

Her gear was just so fucking horrible it made us all sad. When platemail anything dropped we all simultaneously yelled at her to roll on it.

In a pre-expan Kara run she would have been booted, no question. But with level 78 tank? Nah, we just rezzed her all the way through the instance.

My guild is convinced that we're all lagging in Naxx because the servers are spending too much bandwidth keeping track of everyone's total damage and healing done.

Apparently, I'm the only one finds this idea completely hilarious.

What's sad is Forlorn Legacy of Windrunner wants everyone to get out of the instance they are in because we are lagging them

In your Achievements pane, Statistics tab, there's a "total damage done" and "total healing done"

Tell Forlorn Legacy that the problem is the number of statistics that Blizz is tracking, so they shouldn't use any AOE.

That 1% wipe was everyone's fault though. It was the fault of the guy who misplaced 4 talent points because he wanted a boost to soloability for farming (selfish cunt). It's the fault of the miserly faggot who used some rare gems instead of all epics. It's the fault of the british bitch who got an eyelash stuck in her eye and took her hand off the keyboard for 7 seconds during the fight.

Bottom line is you are all miserable wretches and you fail at 1% boss health forever.
