I honestly want to hear honest opinons on why the things I like are so horrible that the new shows have to be so radically different.
It's partly that the 70's are considered a dead era for creativity except for Star Wars. Similarly, the 80's are known for bad action flicks starring behemoths.
This, basically, is the image that people people get:
Spoiler:
I think you're wrong, and for the following reasons:

Indiana Jones
Back to the Future
Ghostbusters
The Dark Crystal & Labyrinth
The Neverending Story
Willow
The Last Starfighter
The Princess Bride
etc.
Yeah! what was so much more horrible about Japanese media/anime of this time period?

Nightly ef musings (personal blog lol)

A love triangle that goes somewhere? Unheard of! That was one epic phone call.

I can't wait to see how this ends, but at the same time I want to drag it out cus it's going to be sad when there's no more episodes to watch

I guess there's A Tale of Melodies.

2 epic phone scenes in one series. The revival of colour in that scene was so reminiscent of Breath of Fire 2 where the game starts off in black and white but becomes a palette of colour during the intro.

Melodies I feel is weaker than Memories in the artistic direction (sometimes too over the top) and one of the stories is a bit oddly paced as well not clicking with me. Still very good though.

Minami-ke Okaeri is off to a good start. Very amusing. M I N A M I K E Let's Go.

Oh, did I mention that I'm up to date on the One Piece manga?

Now, my number one fear now that Oda's Spoiler:
Yeah, I'm not too concerned about that.

Also, re: Shischibukai v Admirals in terms of strength, assuming the third is similar to the other two? Gotta go with Admirals.
Is it a big spoiler to ask who the couple in question is? Is it Ms Navigator and Love Cook? I would actually welcome this, since it gives them a chance to evolve their characters a little. It would get redundant if Sanji would constantly fawn over Nami while Nami just takes advantage of it, and it never moved past this. It's like if Zoro practiced his sword training but never got stronger.

Huh. Eva 2.0 is being released in early summer. Changed from winter. Wonder who the new girl is?
Spoiler:
It's been my belief that she is a representative from SEELE who enters NERV along with Kawaru. Basically, she's to Kawaru what Misato is to Shinji. I always felt how it was weird how Kawaru just walked into NERV without any fanfare, so it makes more sense to have him enter with a guardian of sorts.

Although she looks a lot younger in that shot than I had envisioned. As long as she's not a new pilot (it'll just take time away from Asuka's introduction), I'm fine either way.

Sanji fawns over everyone though . His love of women is a character flaw like Zoro's sense of direction. It is a bit of a spoiler to reveal the couple but no, it isn't Sanji and Nami.

I kinda like that One Piece doesn't take romantic elements too seriously. Although romance can ad gravitas to character development, it would almost go counter to the concept of 'Nakama' if members of the crew were to fall in love with, and essentially 'favor' one crew member over the rest.

White Album seems to be okay. Kind of a nice change to have the two main characters together in the beginning instead of the usual routine. Guy's friend is a bit of a toolbag, though.

I was in Obsidian Spur with you, it has rendered all your opinions null and void with me... Also, those shows (70s robot shit) are not good, maybe from a nostalgia factor but in reality they are poorly animated, poorly written, poorly dubbed and in general an eyesore to watch.

This even applies to Robotech.

Yes, I said it.

Oda has made it quite clear that none of the crew will ever fall for one another. Ever.

I'm pretty sure it would get old fast if he actually caved in and started pairing people up, and would deprivate the story with unnecessary bullshit.

It's not that new shows have to be different, it's just that other people(i.e.: people who are not you, Shrimpy) like different things.

Well, not all of them are horrible, though obviously a lot of them 'borrow' rather heavily from Go Nagai's various series.

Crew pairings are what Doujinshi are for

I just can't imagine One Piece having serious romantic elements. It would be too... wierd.

Well it's true, the story works just fine without any romantic elements, but I was thinking at least in the finale they could make Sanji and Nami canon, just because it would feel somewhat dumb to have them go their separate ways while Sanji waits for the next pretty girl to walk his way. I guess I'm really just curious to see how Sanji treats women once they're past the flirting phase.

Also, Franky House just learned a very important lesson.

Spoiler:

And the proceeding episode was surprisingly emotional. Even I got a little teary eyed.

But then us Sanji Robin shippers will hate Oda forever.

Haha but yes, I do agree it would be interesting to see Sanji get serious about a woman rather than falling over for every one in sight.

Oda knows how to pull the heartstrings over surprising things.

Oh, I forgot, most people here are the kind of high-brow idiots who will call something terrible the second they see QUALITY. God damn t, even shit like Macross had at least a little QUALITY in it. QUALITY really isn't all that terrible, it only got really bad with Gundam in particular because it wasn't just the character scenes, the QUALITY infected the Mecha, too. where, you go watch something like Voltes V or Zambot 3, all the QUALITY is pretty much limited to the characters, understandably all the animation budget went to what fucking counts, the mecha and the MOTW. I wish more shows had that kind of dedication to mechanical design and battle scenes nowadays but noooooooooooo....... people have to have their pretty characters and angst.
