speaking of sad anime.

Man, Elfen Lied.

Those were not manly tears I shed in the last episode.

Those were the crying tears of a little girly man who has had his heart broken by fictional characters and the sad, sad, shit that was happening to them.
ITT we discuss crying over cartoons. I've been brought to the verge of out and out bawling by anime twice in the last few weeks. Kannagi (which was a surprise, just came outta nowhere), and ef, which I already covered at length. Also nearly lost it at the end of Gurren Lagann, and not at the manly action scenes, either.

Pretty tiny list, and not really what I was looking for. I'm talking two characters who either get along really well, or get along with a hint or rivalry, which then leads to a major fight or falling out.

Such as (One Piece Water 7):

Ya know, Isaac and Miria are quite amusing in the 2 episodes of Baccano that I have seen. They certainly have a flair for the dramatic.

It wouldn't work, there is still the matter of the horribly designed Mecha, as well as the awful music. and it's just so different from every other Super Robot show.

Seriously guys, I tried every argument to get him to like GL over in platformers when it was first coming out. He sees it as the emodiment of everything he hates about modern anime, and he cannot be swayed.

It's confounding.

You know what show is surprisingly awesome, no matter how low rent it looks from the first couple of episodes?

SCRYED.

Has one of my favorite anime endings ever. I just rewatched it recently. Hot blood and hidden politics! Looks like a gundam show with no few giant robots!

Especially considering how rediculous GL's hype was, how was a Go Nagai based Toei production going to top that, especially when Gainax has such a cult of loyal followers to hype theiur show, while most people seem to hate Go Nagai and anything based on his works.

So I just finished watching the latest 30 Naruto Shippuuden episodes and I really liked what I saw, especially the Kakashi vs. Kakazu fight was extremely well animated and made me a bit sad that you only get to see something like that every 50 episodes or so.

The new ending however is full of win (and I loved the one before that):

Gai and Lee are pretty much the best thing and this makes it very clear why Sasuke left Konoha: It is a silly place.

From my perspective as a relatively new anime fan, most of this "Gainax cult" would be comprised of people of my age, who have likely only watched Evangelion and perhaps a bit of Gundam SEED as far as mecha is concerned.

So, it's not a matter of detesting Go Nagai, it's a matter of having minimal knowledge of the genre.

EDIT: That Naruto ED is hilarious

But, the show was generally great, they really needed to advertise it better...or bring it over to the US at all......all the best shows never leave Japan......

(Spoilers)

There was this awesome trailer of Go Nagai talking about the show while showing off the new Jeeg design, but it's since dissappeared off Youtube.

Shuffle was pretty good. The plot went from silly (with a KKK joke or two) to much more serious a little ways in. The entire series is up on Hulu free(but dubbed). Also, boobs.

Right, okay, that's enough, I'm done, sorry for prolonging that everyone.

SO

Is anyone else here reading History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi? It's a little excessive on the fanservice at times, but otherwise I've really been enjoying it.
I watched the anime and it was a fun watch, though the ending was a bit meh. I really should read the manga sometime to see what happens after the anime.
The next arc is pretty great. Brings some of the side characters back into the spotlight.
Cool. I might have to catch up.

And by catch up I mean read the whole thing from the beginning to refresh my memory. It's been awhile.
I've been reading it for a while. It's pretty good shounen, although I really wish they'd cut down on the fanservice. I'm a sucker for any series where the main character starts out pathetic and then gradually works his way up (e.g. Slam Dunk, Hikaru no Go), and HSDK delivers that in spades.
