How long might it take to grind out 0-300 mining? I'm strongly considering taking jewelcrafting on my warlock, and I figure I can get mining up now in the meantime, but I think it's going to be horribly horrible.

As I recall, the only really frustrating point is getting from mithril to 275 (rich thorium). You can ease that transition a bit by hitting BRD for DI nodes at 230 and using them to boost you up quickly. Truesilver is also at 230. Small Thorium can be frustrating due to their rarity (most areas with them also have rich thorium, which can be frustrating to ride past).

Searing Gorge and Burning Steppes now have DI veins available, the latter of which does have Truesilver, Mithril, Small and Rich thorium, so as long as you can handle ocassionally watching someone nail a rich vein that you're only 2 points from getting, you'll be fine.

Also, get a pair of gloves and put +5 mining on them. Trust me, it'll save you plenty of frustration.

I found that the easiest way out of the mithril doldrums was to ride in a circle around Tanaris (starting at the caverns of time, going south through the silithid hives, west to Uldum, north up the edge of Un'goro to ZF). There was plenty of Mithril to be found, along with a tiny bit of Truesilver and even the occasional Small Thorium Vein. As I got closer to that crucial 275, I moved over to Silithus and did the same deal -- hug the mountains, there's good numbers of Small Thorium there.

My personal favourite is the Badlands. You can sweep along the perimeter of the zone (particularly in the 4 or 5 spots where you find rock elementals, and the canyon with the dragonkin) and you find tons of Mithril and Iron (which I believe is green for a while even into Mithril), along with the rare Truesilver here and there.

Also, get Herbalism up to 300 (or 295 + glove enchant) before you hit any zones with Black Lotus. It's better for your blood pressure. I had 3 Black Lotus ninja'd from me in one day as I had a guild member race to the zone while I desperately sought 2 or 3 more Silversage for my last points. Now, I just stay the hell out until I'm ready to get 'em.

You want Iron you go to badlands you want more mithril then you can shake a mining pick at you go to tanaris. You keep doing rings around the edges of both zones and youll be able to get tons of ore.

I heard that jewelcrafters are able to make fist weapons at some point. Any truth to this?

Suckage. Hopefully they'll add more in or something. The lack of viable fist weapons in this game saddens me. I WANNA BE A MONK DAMN IT!
