Recomend me some metal/hardcore :

Old 02-15-2009, 10:58 AM
I'm looking for some new music to buy on Itunes. When I'm working out at the gym it helps when I'm listenning to some of the harder tracks I own so I'll list some bands (warning, some are a bit emo) and I'm looking for some suggestions on others bands or albums by the bands listed that have been released in the past year or so.

Thrice
Atreyu
Biffy Clyro
Bullet for my Valentine
Coheed and Cambria
He is Legend
Thursday
Unearth

Cheers!

As I Lay Dying
In Flames
Older A7X
God Forbid
Evergreen Terrace
All That Remains

I haven't listened to hardcore in probably over a year, but those are the bands that I dig enough to keep in my library.

In order of my preference. YMMV.

Protest The Hero
The Fall Of Troy
Mastodon
Enter Shikari
Bring Me The Horizon
American Me
Cancer Bats
Trivium (to a certain degree)

Most of my library is heavier stuff than that, but they should be ok for what you're looking for (hardcore/metalcore).

If you're looking for something heavier then those you should make sure you've tried all the essential 80's trash like Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Anthrax, Testament, Sepultura, Pantera, Iron Maiden, Motorhead, Kreator and Judas Priest.

Hopesfall. EARLY Hopesfall.

One of the few hardcore bands I like. Most hardcore I don't like, because I get bored of standard song structures quickly. Hopesfall did some more interesting stuff though, early on.

Also second on I Killed the Prom Queen. I like the old singer with the irritating screechy voice. I don't know why. I just do.

I would recommend that you sample something from each of the following. This is what I listen to when I hit the gym, and it transforms me into an angry machine.

So-called Groove Metal:
Lamb of God ("Forgotten (Lost Angels)")
Devil Driver

Technical Death:
Arsis ("The Sadistic Motives Behind Bereavement Letters")
Psycroptic

Death:
Arch Enemy ("Rise of the Tyrant")
In Flames

Static-X also has some great workout songs.

Chrome Division.

Started as a side project of Shaggrath from Dimmu Borgir. Think of them as a modern Motorhead.

Modern Life Is War- these guys broke up recently. fucking amazing melodic hardcore. Their best song is easily DEADRAMONES. The Black Flag of our generation.

Ceremony- Best hardcore punk band alive. Absolutely phenomenal no matter which album you pick. Listen to Violence Violence then get Still Nothing Moves You. They're out of California and relatively obscure but Davey Havok covered Straight Edge Revenge by Project X with them at a local show last November. I cannot recommend them enough.

Versus- Political hardcore. Just broke up. So fucking good.

Sabertooth Zombie- Local California band. I have never heard a band like this in my life. So much power and energy in their songs.

Trash Talk- Awesome hardcore.

HeWhoCorrupts- Political grindcore. Crazy, mind blowing shit.

Necrophagist- 90s death metal but still some of the most intense music I've heard.

I'm more of a hardcore punk rock guy.

Well, it is Heavy Metal but I would heartily recommend Black Sabbath. Dehumanizer in particular is a fantastic album, though it is a bit on the GRIMDARK side.

Probably my favourite album by them. Even though its very dark, it's still catchy enough to singalong to.

Painkiller by Judas Priest is a must own. Videos in the spoilers.

Spoiler:

Metallica's Ride the lightning and Master of Puppets are staple thrash metal albums.

Spoiler:

Megadeth's Rust in Peace is probably the best thrash album I've heard and I would highly recommend it along with Peace sells and Countdown to Extinction.

Spoiler:

Not really a big hardcore fan, so I can't really recommend anything.

Acid Bath! It's a little older, but it's definitely worth a listen if you aren't familiar, far and away my favorite metal, though lots of good stuff has been said already too.
