Modern Life Is War- these guys broke up recently. fucking amazing melodic hardcore. Their best song is easily DEADRAMONES. The Black Flag of our generation. Ceremony- Best hardcore punk band alive. Absolutely phenomenal no matter which album you pick. Listen to Violence Violence then get Still Nothing Moves You. They're out of California and relatively obscure but Davey Havok covered Straight Edge Revenge by Project X with them at a local show last November. I cannot recommend them enough. Versus- Political hardcore. Just broke up. So fucking good. Sabertooth Zombie- Local California band. I have never heard a band like this in my life. So much power and energy in their songs. Trash Talk- Awesome hardcore. HeWhoCorrupts- Political grindcore. Crazy, mind blowing shit. Necrophagist- 90s death metal but still some of the most intense music I've heard. I'm more of a hardcore punk rock guy.

Acid Bath! It's a little older, but it's definitely worth a listen if you aren't familiar, far and away my favorite metal, though lots of good stuff has been said already too.
