 | The problem with scissor doors is that the best way to get a good seal and keep out the weather and wind/road noise (in short, improve NVH) is to use a framed window. That is why Subaru is going away from frameless windows. They are also much more expensive and difficult to engineer than conventional hinges. Some luxury sports cars (chiefly Lamborghini) had their own version which works better in more situations, but is even more expensve and difficult to engineer than scissor doors.
When you open a scissor door in, say, a high-rise or underground car park and the window frame hits the ceiling while the door is only halfway open, you have to crawl out the little gap at the bottom... Not a good look, or good for your back. |
