I know, and with the way forums are paced it can be a real pain to get together. I've been using All is Brawl which is a great way to get a quick match going. They even have tournaments!

Note: This forum thread is a hub for both casual and competitive smashers, do not start whining about which is better. It's a good idea to specify which way you want to play when asking for a battle.

    Anyway, I have a question for everyone. Hopefully it won't be thought of as a poll. I'm just curious.

    It's been over a year now since the game was released. What controller did you start with, and what controller are you using now, and why?

    Gamecube all the way. All the other options feel alien to me. My brother uses the sideways Wiimote. I feel so sorry for him.

    Anyway, who wishes to Brawl?

    Oh wow, i haven't played this game in forever...Didn't even realize PA had a forum for it.

    To answer the question, when i do play i use the Gamecube controller.

    Knowing that PA actually has a group of people playing, i have a quick question for you active people. How's the online now (Online Matchmaking and through Wii-Codes)? I remember playing when it first came out, and the input lag was just so terrible.

    I haven't played for a while, and my lack of skill tonight against level 5 CPU shows it. D:

    It's not out of lack of interest. I just have a backlog I want to get through. But I'd gladly be up for a few friendly matches. I still have a few empty friend code slots, and still a few people who aren't yet registered with me.

    To be a part of my own question, I started with a mix of Gamecube and Classic controllers. I knew Melee's controls from the few times I played it, but customized the Classic to be as physically close to the N64 controller as possible since SSB64 is the one I own and played for years and years.

    Y = Special
    B = Attack
    A and X = Jump
    L = Shield
    R = Grab

    Sadly, either because my thumb/brain co-ordination won't adjust, or because of something strange with my CC, but I just can't seem to play with it and I have to stick with the GC controller. I say that especially in comparison to the location of the analog stick on the CC vs. GC controllers. There have just been too many times when the CC's analog makes my character do something as the analog stick returns to neutral after a tilt and it screws me over.

    Example; Moving my character left, then letting go of the stick to stop. When I let go, my character could do a slight step to the right, causing me to face the opposite direction I want to be facing, and perhaps turning my back to the action giving me few options if any for defense.

    I wish I knew what caused this.

    Wait...why would I complain? I'm confused. I believe my statement reads that I am in favor of dlc for SSBB. I would gladly pay money for new characters or levels. Especially for playable Pokemon. It bugs me to no end that Mewtwo was in the earlier iteration of the game but was removed from the sequel. Subtraction is bad.

    I don't know why I said you, I meant everyone in general, since that would be a high price point. I was just pointing out how awesome it would be and the insidious things people would do for more content in this game. Not that there isn't enough already, showing off my spoiledness, but Smash Bros has a wonderful gift where just a bit more content (characters, items, levels) gives you exponentially more things to do in the game.

    It's basically why I was pissed at the singleplayer stuff at first, although it was a ton of fun, I would easily trade it for multiplayer stuff.

    Awesome games, man. My offscreen PKT2 kill was the best part. I seriously didn't think I'd kill you with it.

    Anyway, while I can applaud an attempt to disable tripping, I can't say that forcing Melee engine mechanics into the game is something I approve of. It seems shortsighted and stupid.

    Honestly, I like tripping.

    Did you know that Luigi trips more than any other character? I guess that is the price one has to pay for having a taunt that can METEOR SMASH.

    I was thinking about this last week, and there are three seperate things they could change the game with that would make me repurchase it in an instant, ala the many multiple versions of Street Fighter 2.

    1. The ability to pick any song for any level after you've got them all, to set multiple songs for created stages, and the ability to play said stages online with friends.

    2. More options in online ala better random matches. Net code improvement would be nice, but I'm talking about getting at least the matchmaking as good as Mario Kart.

    So what kind of dumb exploits have people found in this game by now?

    They found an Ocarina code that lets you disable tripping.

    They are also making a bunch of codes that allows/will allow wavedashing, L-Cancelling and other stuff found in Melee.

    That's stupid.
    wtf is an ocarina code

    Aren't those the ones that use the Twilight Princess savefile hack?

    Anyway, while I can applaud an attempt to disable tripping, I can't say that forcing Melee engine mechanics into the game is something I approve of. It seems shortsighted and stupid.

    I remember the wailing and gnashing of teeth when the game first came out. "IT'S JUST MELEE 1.5!!" they screamed.

    Now they all want it to be more like Melee.

    goddamnit it.
    No, some people complained it was too much like melee and some people complained it wasn't enough like melee. Not the same people. Also some people didn't give a shit.

    I finally went to the trouble of beating a 15 minute brawl, and it only took me one try. Pikachu's up-tilt is suprisingly awesome.

    The only achievement left is to get all the stickers, I think I have about 600/800.

    That's about where I stopped too.

    It did however take me months to beat the boss battles on the highest two difficulties and get all the trophies in SSE.

    Some of the stickers are really awesome.

    The singleplayer in this game is underrated. People bitch and moan. "Shitty, too long version of Kirby Super Star."

    I loved every minute of it. Especially in co-op, with goofy ass stickers, on the highest difficulty, running around trying to get trophies.

    It IS basically just like Kirby Super Star, though. Not that that's a bad thing.

    That can't be true because Kirby Super Star is amazing and I had to force myself through the Subspace Emissary. As in, one level every couple of days to stave off the boredom.

    I recently sat down with Kirby Super Star Ultra and knocked it out in a few hours and was wanting more.

    I still haven't beaten boss battles on a difficulty higher than...normal, maybe hard.

    It really shouldn't be that difficult, but it's just absolutely impossible even when I try to cheese my way through it.

    I have completely 100% given up on ever doing it.

    ---

    I really loved the idea of stickers, and the stickers themselves are nice enough to collect, but the implementation of them was pretty unfulfilling.

    People who complain focus on the shitty, too long part.

    SSE for one thing has better bosses and music.

    KSS could be argued to have better variety and better backgrounds.

    It's also fun to notice how certain characters were buffed/nerfed in Singleplayer. Peaches air time for one thing is twice as long, and a lot of the medium characters tend to fly a lot further in singleplayer.

    3. The rest of the cut roster, the left out music, and additional levels from the old game.

    Sounds pretty good, and I'd add some of my own, but I'm tired.

    I will definitely say that I'd love the levels from Melee that are not in this to come back.

    Oh, and an option for "Melee" Mario. I'm not a "Melee is better" person by any means, but having FLUDD to me means little more than having one less move available. I'd even take it in the form of Dr. Mario, though I'd prefer being able to use Classic and Fire Mario with that.

    Regarding the controller poll, GameCube is my main, though I suppose I could make do with any of them.

    As for SSE, I enjoyed it enough, but my biggest complaint is that for the most part, unlike Melee's Adventure Mode, it didn't feel like I was going through Nintendo Worlds. There were a few odd exceptions here and there, some at a stretch even, but for the most part, it lacked that particular connection to me.

    The cutscenes/voiceless story was great, though. Except Sonic's introduction.
