I'll try out for that last slot.

You want everyone to post a character sheet and concept?

    Polymorph as PHBII

No artificers, no wizards, no druids, no clerics.

    Hmph.

I've got so many games on my plate already, but hey, if you end up with space, INNS can always find time for PBP. I won't make an incapable cleric this time, either!

sometimes you just gotta do a thing

I just want to limit prepared full casters, since they are a bit rough to deal with especially in city enviornments where prep is plentiful and i think this will go on for quite a good while. Such the only way to be a prepared full caster is to convince me to let you take arcane preperation, and that of course doesnt give you a wide swath of spells to choose from.

To top it off, they can run roughshod over the best of layed mysteries.

  • INeedNoSaltINeedNoSalt Registered User regular
Fair enough. Especially with Changelings removed, it seemed pretty apparent to me that you were shooting for characters who wouldn't exactly have an upper hand in social dealings.

If INNS finds space in your game, he'd present a combatant, probably one of the classes from Tome of Battle (which he isn't terribly familiar with, but has glanced through and likes.)

sometimes you just gotta do a thing
  • ShamusShamus Registered User regular
Would you allow the Thug from Unearthed Arcana?

I wouldn't mind trying that out, or playing a bard.

  • GoumindongGoumindong Registered User regular
I would but you would probably do better as a rogue. Sneak attack isnt all that great as a combat ability, so you end up trading a lot of feats[which, with TOB and PHB II in play really hurt].

Its not that i dont want you to have an upper hand, its that i dont want it to become stupidly easy, which those races and classes facilitate. Bards and Rogues are good enough without having a Changling druid wearing a hat of disguise running around with a +40 disguise check at level 5 and skill quirks to reduce penalties associated with said effects. And of course the problem of seeing that before it happens to veto it.

Also, changlings are very uninteresting as characters, especially in PbP games without mechanics in place to hide identities.

edit: For now, just give me a concept and not a sheet. You can make the sheet if you want, but the concept is more important.

Cool, I know nothing of Eberron but this is a good excuse to find out. Would a dwarven defender bodyguard be possible in this campain setting?

  • generic hybridgeneric hybrid Registered User
I'd like to play, although this being my first post I wouldn't blame you for passing me up in favor of one of the regulars. The theme and setup has me intrigued and I've honestly never played a campaign without having the obligatory clerics and wizards.

Either way, I had in mind either a sword and board-type no-nonsense cornfed farmboy/fighter, or a traditional streetrat/rogue.

*waits for hopes and dreams to be mecilessly shattered*

  • VicVic Registered User regular
Been reading a little up on Eberron, and it seems my dwarven guard character idea is fairly solid. Considering taking the least dragonmark of warding, though that will require a slight modification of my character backstory.

What kind of Skill tricks would be available for a defensive fighter?

  • Legoman05Legoman05 Registered User
Goum - I know I'm involved in the epic wiki, but I'd like to take a crack at this as well. Are base classes from ToB alright? I'd think I'd either roll Crusader (Of the silver flame, maybe? I don't know Eberron too well) or Warblade, for the 'kill the one baddie in the face' mentality.

Course, might be easier to RP the Crusader, once I figure out Eberron lore. No real reason a warrior-cultured weapons master would go traipsing around a metropolis...

EDIT: IDEA! What about a Warblade 'Paladin' of the silver Flame? I'd RP him as a Puritan who has had a near death experience, and believes the silver flame to have come upon him already. Thus, he fights as one not afraid of death.

I'll specialize in Iron Heart and White Raven Maneuvers, and take the role of the frontliner.

  • GoumindongGoumindong Registered User regular
Base classes from ToB are ok, but ill be watching you. Dwarven Defenders are O.K. so long as you realize you are starting at level 2 and will have to meet the requirements for the class. Give me a bit and ill toss you some skill tricks for a defensive fighter.

When you are ready to submit an idea, put the idea in spoilers and post it here. Dont post goals of couse, since those are for me and you only, and this is just to make it easier to me to figure out who has put togother an idea.

Vic, you are in, you can make a character at any time. When building your character consider the skills necessary to be an effective bodygaurd in a social setting.

  • VicVic Registered User regular
Well, I get no skills at all as a fighter pretty much. The only interesting skill is intimidate, after that its a difficult (haha) choice between swimming, jumping and climbing. Hooray. I suppose a cross class skill might give me better bang for my buck.

I'd consider trying to bargain a class change allowing me to take Sense motive as a class skill, but there is really nothing in the fighter class worth trading for it so I guess I am out of luck on that.

  • GoumindongGoumindong Registered User regular
If you are looking at sword and board, consider going ranger with the two weapon fighting tree, then picking up "improved shield bash" for your spare feet, this lets you twf with a shield without losing your shield bonus to AC

once you qualify for the class(you will qualify at level 7) you can hit agile shield fighter to have a really really good AC.

    Good skill tricks are:

Spot the Weak Point: 12 ranks spot required: standard action, spot DC vs opponents AC. If success next attack=touch attack
Clarity of Vision: 12 ranks spot required: Swift action, DC 20 spot to pinpoint invisible creatures within 30 feet for 1 round.

As well you can take the PHBII alternate class feature to get rid of your animal companion in favor of allowing all friendlies(but not yourself) to count as flanking for any enemy you hit in melee for the next hit placed on that enemy[no matter where they are standing].

Also, especially in cities, favored enemies are nothing to sneeze at.[of which you would get 2 before you hit DD], and the first level spell(s) wont hurt.

    Nordain Stengard

Male Lawful Good Dwarven Fighter, Level 2, Init +2, HP 26/26, Speed 15 ft
    AC 19, Touch 12, Flat-footed 17, Fort +6, Ref +2, Will +1, Base Attack Bonus +2
    Masterwork Dwarven Waraxe +6 (1d10+2, x3)
    Short Bow +4 (1d6 x3)
Breastplate (+5 Armor), Heavy Steel Shield (+2)
    Abilities Str 15, Dex 14, Con 16, Int 10, Wis 12, Cha 8
Skills: Intimidate 5 ranks, Spot 2½ ranks
Feats: Least Dragonmark, Weapon focus Dwarven waraxe, Power Attack

Among all races, there are rebels. A son of a fairly wealthy member of banking family of House Kundarak and born with the Dragonmark of Warding on his chest, Nordain was destined to be an Elite guardsman of the Kundarak bank vaults and was put through a harsh training program to forge him into a perfect warrior. It would come as no surprise that such a treatment would result in him running away from home, but what would surprise members of other races was how quiet his rebellion was. Nordain loyally finished his training, and when he reached manhood he simply explained to his parents that he did not intend to start working in the family firm. After lengthy discussions they grudgingly accepted his decision, and he went out to try his fortune in the wide world.

Nordain now works as a mercenary and hired bodyguard. He is a loyal but rather gruff dwarf, fond of fine wine and tobacco. While not very personable and not he sharpest knife in the drawer, he is nevertheless fairly likeable and lacks the short temper shared by many dwarves.

I have a hard time deciding if removing two points of charisma and putting them in strength would be minmaxing. I suspect it would be.

EDIT: Going ranger would be a cool idea, but doesn't fit in with his backstory. Think I will stick with fighter, even though it kinda sucks.

Class is just a name that fits mechanics. Rangers are full BAB characters. Probably the best example of "the skillful fighter"

Dont think of class having anything to do with who your character is, only about what your character does.[another reason i dont like wizards and druids]

    ed: For the rest:

Come up with a character concept, short backstory and goals. Dont post your goals, but keep them in mind or send them to me. I will pick between 1 and 3 of you depending on whether or not Bruce and Minigunner respond. They got first pick because they were already listed in the "wants to play DnD thread"

Game will start as soon as everyone has sheets ready. I will have chosen players by thursday at which point i will ask everyone to make sheets on http://www.myth-weavers.com/

Well, I agree. Still, a ranger is to me a hunter. None the abilities that define a ranger fit my profile. Animal companion, archery, dual wielding, divine magic, tracking, chosen enemy etc.

I did however consider multi classing ranger. One level ranger would give me favored enemy (human), track, and some cool skill points. I am still thinking about it...

Currently tinkering around with an idea for a half-orc Barbarian that wants to be/thinks he is a wizard. As in, he will hit you with his giant axe and shout MAGIC MISSILE. Hopefully this'll still be open when I get the specifics done.

  • GoumindongGoumindong Registered User regular
Oh, hit points will be 1d4+difference each level after 2nd, max for the first, 3/4 for the second.

    Uuuh, what? 1d4+difference?

Do you mean 1/4 difference each level? And what about level 3, 1/2 hp?

  • GoumindongGoumindong Registered User regular
1d4 + the difference in your die versus a d4.

    So a d6 is 1d4 +1
    a d8 is 1d4 +2
    a d10 is 1d4 +3
    a d12 is 1d4 + 4

Average hit points are the same and a bit more uniform, but it forms a clear differentiation between the hit dies. Something i wanted to try out to see how it went.

I'd like to play. Never played an Ebberon campaign, but I like the idea behind it.

I have a concept to put forth for you:

Human Swashbuckler (Chaotic Good): I'd need to get your go-ahead on using Swashbuckler from the Complete Warrior though.
    Abilities:
    Str 10, Dex 16, Con 12, Int 14, Wis 8, Cha 14
Roleplayed: A smart, smooth talker, stuck up to another degree. Makes terrible boasts to the wrong type of person, yet somehow always finds his way out through either out thinking them after the fact, or convincing them to let him go.

I'll edit this post when I've got the character sheet finished.

Edit: Edited out mention of the other character I wouldn't want to play as much.

  • GoumindongGoumindong Registered User regular
Dont bring me sheets, bring me concepts, dont worry about stats yet, i may not select you. Ive got a lot of people saying they want in and only a few slots.

You want to play a swashbuckler architype.

Theif-Acrobat is from complete adventurer, not scoundrel. Ill let you know whether either of those is O.K. after i figure out who is playing.

I will also want someone whom i can confide story details in and run ideas by. I have pretty much the entire thing planned out for how i want to run it, but its always good to have a person to run stuff by, and its busting my balls to not say anything about what i think is a pretty kickass adventure.

It will also let you guys know how kickass it is if they think its kickass.

Meh, Lego's game is on hold, so I'll toss my hat in here.

Gonna go with a base class for now- Halfling monk.
Ariel was a street orphan who was taken in at a very young age by the temple of the Silver Flame, where she was taught reverence for Law, but became fixated on the side of the church dealing with protection due to her awful experiences on the street.

Her parents long dead due to thieves and knowing what life on the street is like, she has been yearning for years to go forth into the world and use the teachings of her church to stop the strong from preying upon the weak- through words if possible, and through violence when her words fall on deaf ears.

She uses no family name- for the temple has always been her family- but those who have made the grave mistake of underestimating her due to her size know her as Ariel Stonefoot.

So ya, a general hard to hit stunning, disarming bastard of a character. Seems like this concept would work well in this kind of high-CR-but-fewer-opponents kind of campaign, and I tried not to make her LG tendencies too overpowering for the group. I'm interested in knowing what skill tricks you think would be appropriate, too. Thanks for reading! :)

Please tell me if this is NOT your concept, if there is a strike through your name, its becase you have submitted anything, or only submitted a class

    Pre-selected due to thread:
Vic: Dwarven Fighter : Dragonmakred Kundarak
    Bruce: ??

    to Choose From:

Pip the Fair : Dwarven Duskblade: non- Kundarak Noble
El Skid: Halfling Monk : Silver Flame adept
XaliberD: Human Swashbuckler : Han Solo
    [strike]trenog : no submission[/strike]
Legoman05: Warblade : Silver Flame Zealot
Generic Farmboy : Generic Fighter : Generic Farmboy
    [strike]Shamus : Bard : ??[/strike]

This means that i have to choose between pip, skid, xaliber, legoman, and Generic for two slots.
