Our new Indie Games subforum is now open for business in G&T. Go and check it out, you might land a code for a free game. If you're developing an indie game and want to post about it, follow these directions. If you don't, he'll break your legs! Hahaha! Seriously though.
Our rules have been updated and given their own forum. Go and look at them! They are nice, and there may be new ones that you didn't know about! Hooray for rules! Hooray for The System! Hooray for Conforming!
Oh yeah, I finally watched Pirates 3 last night. It was a lot better than I was expecting, judging from the trailers they were showing. I kinda like how they took Will Turner onto a darker path, but then nothing meaningful ever really came of it, so that was kinda . Did anyone else think it was kinda racy and violent for a Disney movie? I mean the beginning of the last scene with Elizabeth and Will on the beach was a little... too mature for kids, wasn't it?
So I watched the Return of the Jedi and General Akbar says, "ITS A TRAP"
Forgive my internet ignorance, but I had no idea that meme was from that movie.
I laughed so hard.
Not all series rely on the retarded faces, though. There aren't any in Stand Alone Complex, for one. We're once again trying to talk about anime as a genre when it isn't.
There are barely any emotions in Stand-Alone Complex.
GitS is a (comparatively) serious, high-minded series and I applaud it, but people still wax discursive at length about their inner lives - "here is what I am thinking right now" - rather than displaying it through gesture, nuance, or allusion (which, granted, can be hard work in animation).
Anime is still, at all levels, a commercial enterprise representing huge investments of time and money, so it's always going to lie within a certain distance of a thematic and stylistic mean. I think manga is a better place to find adult storytelling, because being cheaper to produce it supports a wider variety of stuff - no one will ever mistake Hotel Harbour View for a Rumiko Takahashi book.

Yes, it is true.
Fuzzy did not know this thing.
Also, was there always a cut to the different cities at the end, and then certain dead people including a certain dead evil person appearing at the end?
I don't remember that in the original.

Well, you CANNOT UNDERSTAND THE MOST BASIC SHIT so that makes sense.
People take movies like Pirates waaaay too seriously.
Like, people always bitch about the last two Matrix movies, but I thought they were enjoyable as long as you weren't there for the meaning of life or whatever.

I thought the Matrix sequels failed as fun action movies. They were so horribly put together - a half hour long fight scene, no matter how cool, is about twenty minutes too long.

I disagree. Not about the Matrix, but some fights are epic enough to make up for an unconventional length.

Yep.
Hugo Weaving was the best part of all 3 movies. Also, Monica Bellucci FTW.

I guess we have different standards then. I really liked the chase scene in Reloaded.
Actually, I have really low standards for action movies in general. I'm pretty easy to entertain.

People will argue in earnest that that is a flaw in your character, but those people are pretty well full of shit.

It took me a long time to realize that, actually. Eventually I got sick of other people ruining my entertainment experience and one day I was just like "fuck all y'all, I like what I like".
This was difficult because I had to give up judging other people based on their entertainment choices in order to be consistent.

I don't understand this "dancing" of which you speak. What is that? Is that like Britney Spears? Is it anything like playing pool? Because that I get.
