Just wondering, but is this so that you guys can clean up the sticky area by making the above threads normal?

Yeah, there are so many important threads and it becomes impractical to sticky them all. As it was before, there were so many stickies, you couldn't see the normal threads below them without first scrolling down (at least on my screens).
