Yes. Flying Battery is the greatest and that is its greatest remix.

You know what, I found out something a few days ago that I never knew before: there is actually a flying battery in the Flying Battery zone. Or, if nothing else, a yellow cylinder setpiece that is only used once in the game to my knowledge. I never found it in all these years of playing that level. Seen briefly at the end of this video (may want to mute the music depending on your preferences):

    http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x5kh94_race-for-the-flying-battery-battery_videogames

So not really related to needlemouse or even this quote specifically, but it's appropriate to mention here - I've begun production on a webshow called The TSR Show (redundant, I know... "The The Sonic Retard Show"... when spelled out fully it condenses to "The Sonic Retard Show") where I'm basically doing the stuff I did in my big Sonic and Ecco threads (going over the history, showing off stuff people generally don't know about, talking about neat tid-bits) only with video instead of text.

Anywho, stuff like what you mentioned above is gonna get pointed out.

We began filming the first episode last weekend, it's about Sonic CD. When it launches, I'll put a link in my sig.

EDIT: From the stuff we shot and the way we shot it, it'd be best to compare it to a version of AVGN without the skits or humor or overt cursing, and focusing on good games and why they work, instead of bad games and why they don't. But we'll see how it turns out after we finish filming and editing.

Its a pretty fun experience filming and editing. I haven't done this shit in like 7 years since my freshman year of college, using cameras with DV cassettes and a simple imac, despite one of my degrees being in film. Now, I have digital cameras and advanced editing equipment and what-not, and its incredibly easy.

Which is good, because I hated editing years ago, even though I was pretty good at it.

    EDIT: Also:

    Do Badniks count as characters?

At any rate, if the rumor about them going episodic is true, I wouldn't mind seeing Tails and Knuckles later, provided they play as they did in Sonic 3 & Knuckles.
I hope it's true so that, in the event it sucks, I didn't have to pay full price.

Oh, and as another bonus, let’s go ahead and dispel away a little rumor that we’ve noticed in the comments:

Project Needlemouse is not an HD version of Sonic 1. These may be old badniks, but when we said all-new adventure, we meant it. :)

So apparently they posted a music sample from the new game, two pieces of concept art from the first zone, and announced they'll be announcing the name of the game on Thursday.

Then their website went down due to an overload of traffic.

It's funny that, dispite the Sonic series having been in the veritable toilet for a long time, it can still generate enough interest to crash a website. :D

Okay, I can actually few the page now.

    Firstly
Thursday, Feb 4th: The big day! Project Needlemouse’s actual title revealed, and an extra Bonus… ...We know a few of you out there are going “But why can’t you just announce the name of the game today?” For you guys: Please trust us when we say that announcing the game this Thurdsay, which will let us do so alongside the bonus, is going to be completely worth the wait.

    As Data would say: intriguing.

The stage 1 concept art is of plants, specifically the traditional sunflower and palm tree of a stage 1 zone.

Apparently the reason the blog crashed is that there was a contest. If you posted a comment, you could win a prize. Top prize was a signed copy of Sonic 3, with a bunch of additional prizes for random commenters all the way out to the 2,500th comment.

Finally, the new piece of music is up at Sega's frontpage http://www.sega.com/ and while it certainly seems to be TRYING to capture the 16 bit feel, I think it falls short of being a classic bit of music. It's too "yippee" cheerful for me.

The Sonic Cycle is the starting to feel like a Sonic-thread specific version of referencing TVTropes. It is no longer unique, clever, or entertaining.

And yeah, with the latest blog post, we can all but guarantee that this is New Sonic the Hedgehog. So pumped.

    Yep.

And even if it comes out and is really good, a bunch of people will go "I don't like this and look here is a review that gave it a 3/10, Sonic Cycle all over again and you all got puuuunked"

Perhaps. Sonic 2 was released in Europe and America on Sonic 2sday (24/10/1992) so if it is going to be called Sonic 4, letting it out of the bag on the fourth day of the week would be pretty fitting.

If it is not called Sonic 4 then it will be named "Sonic Legends" or something similarly simple that might imply separate DLC levels. There will be no theme or subtitle as on the Wii games.

Yep, it's looking more and more likely. And since the game's goals are to appease the fans, that's pretty much the name Sonic fans would appreciate more. Even though there's been many more than four Sonic games already, but never mind.

I'm cautiously optimistic but still afraid they'll screw this up somehow. Like, say taking the fan's calls for "momentum, dammit!" to make Sonic as (relatively) sluggish as he was in Sonic 1, rather than faster as he was in Sonic 2.

They will probably include a hamfisted mechanic specifically built for momentum, like a meter that fills every time you land on a platform and rewards you with a faster dash like usual.

They already dismissed the idea of a boost button, Sporky.

One reason I came up with to be optimistic about this game: Mega Man 9 and New Super Mario Brothers have helped to demonstrate that the retro-pandering* niche is a viable one. Why wouldn't Sega jump on board with a serious attempt to recapture the gameplay that put Sonic on the map?

I'm afraid of this building hype for the simple name of a game.

I can't understand how you could get excited over a title, and thus, am already turning pessimistic.

It just seems like they're making too big of a deal for it to simply be "sonic 4" now.

Being pessimistic is totally the way to go for this sort of thing anyhow.

If it turns out to be bad then welp business as usual.

But if it's good then it's a pleasant surprise!

Maybe it's just because I live in Alaska and have to do the timezone math for everything, but I'm still surprised how many people get confused by this. (Even people from other countries, given how much stuff in this industry is oriented around American timezones.)

There's a three hour difference between the East Coast and West Coast of America, with west coast's Pacific Standard Time (PST) being 3 hours behind Eastern Standard Time (EST).

So when it's 12am Eastern Standard Time, it's 9pm Pacific Standard Time. And when it's 12am Pacific Standard time, it's 3am Eastern Standard Time.

So, to answer your question, the update will happen at 3am EST.

timeline wise? There's a timeline for Sonic?

It was developed simultaneously with Sonic 2, and completed around the same time, although it's release was with held for a year so its sales wouldn't take away from Sonic 2's.
