Easiest(And cheapest!) way to get windows on a macbook
So I got a macbook a about 2 years ago, and have had no complaints with the machine, or the OS. There is one thing that I missed about using a PC though, and that was my Zune and it's Zune Pass. Now with the Zune HD about to come out, I been debating trying to get windows on my mac.
I know it can be done, but what's the easiest, and cheapest way to do it?
You will need to find a Windows CD for any of the methods. Then there are a couple options.
1) Run the Boot Camp Assistant App and follow the instructions to install Windows. You will now be able to choose to boot into Windows when you start your computer.
2) Another way is to install a VM software, either VMWare Fusion, Parallels or VirtualBox, run that program and install a Windows virtual machine using your Windows CD. Now you can run Windows while you are still in OS X. VirtualBox is free, the others aren't.
I much prefer #2 because it's a hassle booting into Windows all the time, but #1 is arguably easier.
Using Boot Camp is the cheapest way, but it might not be the easiest for you. Keep in mind that Boot Camp creates a Windows partition that will be completely separate from your Mac OS. The disk space in the Boot Camp partition will be lost forever to the Mac OS (until you remove the partition, of course).
There are a few software options, like VMWare Fusion and Parallels Desktop that allow you to run Windows in a window from within the Mac OS.
Also, regardless of which option you choose, you'll have to purchase and install all the third-party programs any Windows computer would need, so at a minimum you'll need to install an antivirus program plus whatever drivers you may need. Obviously (but not obvious enough for some) none of your Mac applications can run in Windows.
