Also, I've heard people talking about Harmonix possibly doing another 'band specific' game, but what the hell could you follow The Beatles with?
Zepplin?
Pearl Jam? Wasn't the band themselves thinking something like that was going to happen?
Pearl Jam appears to have two things of note. One is an album DLC of Backspacer later this month. The other is some sort of Live project where there is a vote setup somewhere to pick which songs could be used.
There isn't much concrete information about the second one and people are split between the game being a track pack like AC/DC and a full-fledged game.
I don't care if they don't add harmonies to old DLC, but I really hope they add being able to have 2 people sing the same song at the same time. It was great to be able to do this on songs that the girlfriend and I both really wanted to sing.
Like I said, they're probably going to adapt them the same way they did HOPO chords, popping them in DLC in the weeks leading up to the release and have it for good afterwards.
That said, I'm really really looking forwards to the HOPO fix, god they're amazing in BRB, exactly how I imagined they would work.
Really all I want from RB3 besides a great track list is all the little stuff that BRB added, some more sort options, better stage animations and more varied character designs. Oh, and even better DLC integration into the world tour so playing through it is less monotonous. Mostly by having challenges just pick songs from your DLC list according to a hidden (or not hidden) set of requirements. Anything to stop the late game from being: Painkiller, Visions, Battery, and Panic Attack with a few variations. Once I got to that point on RB and RB2 I said fuck it and stopped.
Led Zepplin or Pink Floyd would be the only ones it'd really make sense with.
I bought the beatles yesterday, and played it straight through. It was good, but there are some stupid beatles songs on there.
I dream of them doing a led zep. version of this game, because I think they could pick 40 or so songs that just don't miss.
Ya, it's impossible to find 40 good Beatles songs after all :P. They purposely did more than just the hits in B:RB to put in some deeper album cuts and give all four Beatles more equal representation. Any "stupid Beatles songs" included in the game are not from a lack of available quality in the catalog.
I don't know who they'd follow it up with, if anyone. I've read many of the reviews talking about this being the last band-specific rhythm game, simply because it couldn't really be topped by other bands. While there are plenty that have enough quality songs to have an entire game dedicated to them, few have the well developed and well known imagery associated with the Beatles. Half of B:RB is the visuals. How would you do a Led Zeppelin dreamscape? For any of their songs? I could see a possible Pink Floyd game for their use of imagery, but it would not as often be "fun" to play in a traditional RB set up, and it would go even further in to the critique of how often in B:RB you play something other than guitar on guitar.

So I got my replacement RMA'd guitar today, and it's a sunburst strat instead of the black one I currently have. I don't know how I feel about this.
Well, the sunburst is the standalone version. And I always thought the sunburst works better with the new neck finish (as opposed to RB1's old clean finish).

A wider selection of opportunities...ones that aren't tied to specific songs every damn time. Large venues having the ability to make your own setlist. The unlockable ability to create a setlist in any venue of any size, like Quickplay. The ability to have two singers, male and female, as stand-ins. More random chances to shoot a music video. A sortable closet to avoid the piles of 'free' crap that never gets used. The ability to create a band logo and apply it to clothing without having to fucking redesign it.
Led Zepplin or Pink Floyd would be the only ones it'd really make sense with.

I could see Pink Floyd, The Wall for some stuff but I think that would drag at parts.
As for Zeppelin dreamscapes, well, The Song Remains the Same had a bit where each member got to act out their fantasies during a song. Plant was a viking warrior and Bonham was a mobster. Maybe something like that.
Exactly what I mean about linking DLC. Look, all they need to do is have everything open in quickplay in the beginning and make the campaign more general guidelines. Like if you're playing in Boston and it has a Hometown Bands Challenge, it'll pick 3 songs from bands from Boston within x difficulty. The Challenges (like the albums and stuff) would be much better off being linked into the World Tour proper. Perhaps with more bite sized chunks. Like, the opening tracks you'd play for the first city would be like:
Restrictions:
Band difficulty: 0 - 2
Guitar: 0 - 2 etc etc.
question: My wife really wants to get this game for our 360 because she loves the Beatles
We have never played a rockband or guitar hero game before... should we get the combination back with the guitar controller? or do we need to get the guitar hero controller because it is better?
Unless you really, really, really want some Beatles branded instruments (they are goddamn sexy, mind you), the most efficient way to get quality instruments and rock the fuck out would be to buy a Rock Band 2 bundle on sale (it's been $100 at a LOT of places in the last few weeks), then pick up a software copy of Beatles: Rock Band.
Led Zepplin or Pink Floyd would be the only ones it'd really make sense with.
I bought the beatles yesterday, and played it straight through. It was good, but there are some stupid beatles songs on there.

Fixed that for ya. Come on, I love Rock Band and Harmonix as much as the next guy but let's not pretend.
If that was their motivation they certainly could have included more filler. Looking at the selection, I personally find it to be pretty obvious they were trying to cover more of the less played Beatles. With: Boys, Do You Want To Know A Secret, I Me Mine, I Wanna Be Your Man, If I Needed Someone, etc... I think it shows they were trying to put in more songs sung by the other two guys in the band. As much as I enjoy a lot of those, a lot of them probably wouldn't be included in a Beatles best of. Boys especially stands out, as I think a lot of people would prefer almost any other song off that album. I think it was included because its sung by Ringo. I'm surprised he got anything more than With a Little Help From My Friends and Yellow Submarine.
Either way, historically DLC doesn't even make them that much money. Especially for a title intended for less traditional gamers, they would have probably been better off putting all the big hits on disc to secure more hardware sales. Most people don't buy DLC. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised to hear most people with B:RB don't have their system hooked up to the internet.
I wonder if buying the full Sgt. Pepper album will let you seperate Sgt. Pepper from With a Little Help From My Friends. I love both songs, but sometimes I just want to play one or the other, not both.
Just to be clear, if I bought the disc only version of BRB I can use my GHIII guitar and just treat it like GH Beatles right (but with bass as well I guess)?
And then if I wanted a mic or drums I could get those individually later?

Yep, you can play the story with just guitar too. Its actually got a lot more in common with the game structure of Guitar Hero 1/2/3 than it does RB1/2 and (I presume) WT and GH5.
Great, thanks. GHIII is the only instrument game I've played, I thought it was kind of mediocre but I keep hearing how it's the worst of all of them so I'm thinking of giving them another try.

Eh, I guess we'll agree to disagree on this? I don't think Harmonix continues to release dlc out of the goodness of their hearts. I don't keep up with the numbers, but I recall reading that the amount of dlc sold for the RB series was staggering. If all the hits were included on the disc then only die hard fans would bother with dlc. As it is, there's just enough to get you in and I'd say it's a safe bet that enough people will go out of their way to get more to make it worthwhile for Harmonix and Apple Corps.

They probably keep shoving out DLC because it sells well enough to get Viacom to give them $300 million bonuses every year.
So my sister bought a second mic, wireless at that.
We did a lot of Harmony vocals tonight. Lots of fun and also very frustrating trying to figure out what the song wants from you. Songs like "Taxman" become a clusterfuck towards the end. Uploading some of the better runs we did onto YouTube.
i'm making really good progress on getting the stuff where the vocal lines are pretty independent (like I've Got A Feeling, Twist And Shout), but it's wayy hit and miss for anything where you're singing in thirds or whatever.

Why would they bother with Pearl Jam? All their best songs are already on RB.

Get some Buddy Holly songs and The Hollies in the mix! Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress!!!
The good thing is that they wouldn't have to program in a crowd.
Actually, they would. And a whole new venue in Portugal.
