Oh hey, the crowd singalong in Heartbreaker is awesome. I forgot how great those can be, what with having been playing BRB and GH5 for most of the last week.
Led Zepplin or Pink Floyd would be the only ones it'd really make sense with.
I bought the beatles yesterday, and played it straight through. It was good, but there are some stupid beatles songs on there.
I dream of them doing a led zep. version of this game, because I think they could pick 40 or so songs that just don't miss.
Ya, it's impossible to find 40 good Beatles songs after all :P. They purposely did more than just the hits in B:RB to sell more dlc.
Fixed that for ya. Come on, I love Rock Band and Harmonix as much as the next guy but let's not pretend.
If that was their motivation they certainly could have included more filler. Looking at the selection, I personally find it to be pretty obvious they were trying to cover more of the less played Beatles. With: Boys, Do You Want To Know A Secret, I Me Mine, I Wanna Be Your Man, If I Needed Someone, etc... I think it shows they were trying to put in more songs sung by the other two guys in the band. As much as I enjoy a lot of those, a lot of them probably wouldn't be included in a Beatles best of. Boys especially stands out, as I think a lot of people would prefer almost any other song off that album. I think it was included because its sung by Ringo. I'm surprised he got anything more than With a Little Help From My Friends and Yellow Submarine.
Either way, historically DLC doesn't even make them that much money. Especially for a title intended for less traditional gamers, they would have probably been better off putting all the big hits on disc to secure more hardware sales. Most people don't buy DLC. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised to hear most people with B:RB don't have their system hooked up to the internet.
Eh, I guess we'll agree to disagree on this? I don't think Harmonix continues to release dlc out of the goodness of their hearts. I don't keep up with the numbers, but I recall reading that the amount of dlc sold for the RB series was staggering. If all the hits were included on the disc then only die hard fans would bother with dlc. As it is, there's just enough to get you in and I'd say it's a safe bet that enough people will go out of their way to get more to make it worthwhile for Harmonix and Apple Corps.
I couldn't dig it up but I recall somewhere in the last thread we were talking about how, though the DLC sales are absolutely fucking for DLC, they didn't actually bring in that much money compared to how much RB made through discs or whatever. *shrug*
It wouldn't really matter if there were just doing it more $$, I'm a sucker for this shit, and am just glad they only are charging 2$ instead of 3 for DLC because I probably would have fallen for it.
Edit: Back in January 2008 they had sold 1 million copies of the disc, and 2.5 million dlc. That means on average, every person that bought Rock Band bought 2 and a half songs, which isn't a shining average. That would put the disc at bringing in 60mil hard revenue compared to 5 million for DLC, though who knows what the cost or profit margin is for either with licensing and all.
Edit 2: Wikipedia has, by the end of the year, RB1 selling 4million and RB2 selling 1.7million, with 30million downloads. Much better average by then, but at 2$ each, I still don't see the DLC contributing much to the estimated "600million" in revenue by October. At most 1/10?
Yeah but if they made 60 million dollars revenue on dlc, that's probably about 30 million profit, as I doubt licensing is more than 50% of the cost of a song. May be wrong on that, but still.
60 million might not be much compared to 600 million (though thats revenue too and I'll bet instruments have a lot more overhead than dlc).
But your average computer game doesn't make 60 million in revenue (how many games sell 1 million copies?) and even if they do they're probably on much smaller margins than ~50%.
This was our attempt for "Paperback Writer". You can just hear how complex it gets in one room with two people, I could imagine how it could be with 3.
Since I never watched any video from the Microsoft's E3 thingy, the opening video pretty much floored me. Awesomeness!
New Gretsch guitar controller: also awesome. My problem is that the automatic calibration came up with terrible numbers for me. Exhibit A: I got 3 stars on the very first song. Yikes. Manual calibration ahoy!

Well how good you do after auto-calibration isn't exactly proof that it's wrong.
It could be proof that you have gotten your senses used to being out-of-sync with all the video or audio.
My auto calibration came up with wacky numbers as well but I used an RB strat... my numbers for RB2 are consistently 30/30 and in B:RB it told me 6/9. We tried it for a few songs but it was definitely wrong so I changed it back and it's fine now *shrug*
I just recalibrated RB2 (after moving back to my usual television) and got different numbers, so it's not like the auto calibrate is infallible.

I totally concede that the auto-calibrate isn't always right.
However, if it's the first time someone's ever used it, and repeated calibrations give them similar results, I would suggest more than just 3-starring your first song ever at those settings before writing off the functionality altogether.
Okay something I haven't seen either confirmed or denied:
So the prices for Abbey Road DLC have been set, and obviously it's both cheaper and more reasonable to buy the complete album. I can't see it realistically being downloaded if it was more than a few dollars over a regular CD price. So what about the Wii? Will Beatles Rock Band support the 'buy a pack' DLC? I damn hope so, because I'm not paying almost $25 for a whole album of DLC.

I thought it was a really good idea for them to have the game ask you if you want to calibrate as soon as you start it up for the first time. And then it gives you achievement for it, just to make you feel good about yourself.
"Boy, unpacking those instruments sure was hard. Hows about you sit back and let us take care of some stuff for a bit. Atta boy, here's an achievement. Now it's time to rock."

In case anyone's wondering (since there was some discussion earlier), bass on I Feel Fine is not gold-starrable.
It was so fucking hard to get a Gold Star on guitar.
Like seriously, the most I've ever worked for a GS on Rock Band.

Made it to the second Abbey Road set-list. Let me just say that if this game was just "While My Guitar Gently Weeps Rock Band", I would still pay full price for it.
So I just woke up to the special edition B:RB sitting in my living room, my girlfriend is pretty awesome. The Hoffner bass is too awesome for words, can't wait to play it.

After playing the Cavern Club and half of Ed Sullivan, I'm left wondering why people are complaining about the difficulty. I can normally play expert guitar and I'm a huge Beatles fan so I'm familiar with their songs, but I keep getting 4 stars and on 2 songs I got 3 stars. This could be because I'm used to playing with the huge fret'd and clicky strums of the Explorer and now have the Hoffner, but I'm not finding it overly easy. Also playing bass on the earlier songs at least is pretty tricky.

No Time is a very, very rad song by the Guess Who. I've been hoping to see it in RB for a while. It's great on all instruments, basically, AND would be fun to sing.

Are the uplugged tracks making their way to Rock Band? Cause I would buy Bring me to Life in a second. It'd be kinda neat if they made it so someone can sing the lead and the other person do the whole rapping thing.
