Eidos and WBIE announce details on the promised free DLC for Batman: Arkham Asylum that will launch on Thursday:
Monday 14th September/... Eidos Interactive Ltd. and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment today announced the Insane Night Map Pack, a free downloadable map pack for the critically acclaimed Batman: Arkham Asylum™ action adventure title. Beginning September 17th, the Insane Night Map Pack will be available from PlayStation® Store, Xbox® LIVE Marketplace, and Games for Windows® LIVE Marketplace, and offer gamers two new Challenge Maps to hone their FreeFlow™ Combat skills and test their Invisible Predator™ prowess.
In the ‘Totally Insane’ FreeFlow Combat map, players will be tested to their fullest as scores of escaped lunatics bear down upon BATMAN as they make their escape through the asylum’s secure records facility. These fast-moving foes will challenge all but the most practiced players, with quick reactions and expert timing needed to fend off wave upon wave of insane inmates, bent on taking down the DARK KNIGHT. In the ‘Nocturnal Hunter’ Invisible Predator map, players take on a wholly different approach, practicing their predatory skills to remain in the shadows, utilizing the Arkham watchtowers and Batman’s arsenal of gadgets to gain the upper hand on The Joker’s army of goons patrolling below.
The Insane Night Map Pack will be available from September 17th for PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system, Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft®, and the soon to be released Games for Windows® LIVE edition.
Hmm, so we're getting the entire courtyard? That could be cool, especially if its full but theres very little to experiment with there, no destroyable floors or vents.
Im glad thats only the first pack though, I still want something a little different or a director mode predator/challenge map. I could go for facing 6 titans at once.
What happened to the Dem Bones and Crime Alley maps?

There are some explodable floors outside, there's a couple near the batmobile. Also those little security huts with destuctable walls/ceilings.

I thought it meant the courtyard where you gain access to the Mansion and Botanical Gardens. I just hope its heavily populated, my only criticism of the predator maps is that there aren't that many people and theres only so many ways you can kick ass in them.
You use the highest unlocked ability based on what you have for the save you're using. If you want only a single batclaw, you'd have to start a new game and then do the challenges before unlocking the ultra-batclaw.
They don't go down in one hit, if you choose to just throw combos it'll be pretty boring, a never ending wave of people you can mix up any combos with is more fun than an enemy type you either flip over or stun and thats it.
I thought the inmates were the guys who just charge you and go down in one hit, which sounds equally boring.
'A person who is confined in a prison, hospital, etc.' It also applies to every other thug. Just sayin'...
The one-hit guys are technically called "Lunatics" in the game. But I agree with the sentiment.

Egos wants League of Shadows ninjas. Or any other themed villain thugs.
Running through a bizarre Alice and Wonderland and fighting the Mad Hatters' thugs would be pretty fun. Especially if they do that Chess Set (ala the TAS)
The new combat map sounds awful. I hate fighting the Arkham inmates.
You hate fighting every enemy in the game?
I hate to be that guy but the main thugs are Blackgate prisoners the arkham inmates are the loons that go down usually in one hit. Which doesn't sound all that fun for a challenge map.

true, but I don't think they would expect the general public to know that.

If this is what it sounds like it will be (waves of the QTE crazies) then do not want.
Okay so this is really pissing me off now. I just got my second corrupt save. The game was most definitely not saving when I turned the console off, I made sure of this after the last time it happened. It seems to be a pretty widespread issue to, especially amongst 360 users. First time it happened I was close to finishing it, just before Ivy fight and now I was at the batcave for the first time. fuck. Worst game ever.
I read on the rocksteady forums that it could be down to switching the console off during the little cut-scene just after you die. Maybe there's an autosave right there thats not indicated in anyway? Who knows. Whatever it is, it needs sorting.

There is an auto-save there, on the PS3 anyway you can see it doing the little circle auto save thing in the corner after you die.

Why anybody would shut off the console without backing out to the main menu is beyond me.
Which is where multiple save slots would come in handy. Not to bring it up again but theres no reason I shouldnt be able to save my position manually so I can replay sections without replaying the entire game.

I'm honestly not trying to be argumentative, but you mean 'no reason I'd accept', right? Because I get the feeling they wanted AA to be an 'experience' and flow through the story and so didn't want to allow people the ability to bash their way to ultimate victory.
They also may have just not seen it as necessary. There is one way through the game, and autosave takes care of saving your progress through the linear story. It was (potentially) a few less screens to code if saving is one slot only and the game is in control of when instead of the player.

I mean, it's a reason.
Throughoutt he game though I was prepared for the possibility that my save might corrupt and I'd be fucked. This is built in by games explicitly telling you to save often and save over multiple slots.

Because this isn't a PC? I bought the 360 version so I wouldn''t have to jump through hoops to shut down the machine I'm playing on; you know, ease of access. I don't expect to have to exit out to the main menu and then shut down the console, that shouldn't be affecting the saves.

That would be even more special.

stun + attack
batarang
batclaw
evade
ground takedown
combat takedown
throw
which is everything, except your basic attack, which requires an initial stun.

ah yes you're right
and that is an important thing to be immune to
nonetheless it would force some very different tactics, since you can't rely on countering as a default safe maneuver.

Sort of... The Joker DLC is just part of the plan.
