So, my dog Scooter (Jack Russel terrier) passed away today. I came home from work and my girlfriend was crying inconsolably, holding him in her arms in the laundry room. Guess he had been chewing on one of his favourite toys and a piece of it broke off and he choked to death on it. My girlfriend had gone out to get groceries and came across him when she got home.

We took the body to the vet and the he pulled out the piece of rubber that had clogged up his airway.

My girlfriend is really torn up about this because she believes if she had been home, she would have been able to prevent it. I keep telling her that we've left him alone thousands of times and there's no way we could have had the foresight to stop this. I looked at the ball he had been playing with and there hadn't been any signs of too much wear and tear. If I had noticed that, I would have thrown the ball out.

What fucks me up the most about this is that he was only thee years old and was my buddy. He would ride in my truck with me and go for hikes with us, camping. I even took him duck hunting with me last year and he would just sit on a blanket in the boat with me.

I think we're going to bury him tomorrow out at my parents farm by these old spruce trees he used to love chasing squirrels around. Maybe he can haunt the fuck out of them.

Fuck, I want to cry now. Thanks for hearing me out guys.

Alternatively, post funny videos of animals. Or whatever.

I can't make jokes about dead dogs.

If my dog ever died I'd have to kill somebody.

A little terrier showed up at our store yesterday during a rainstorm. We lured him into the store and eventually the office, but the number on his collar lead to a disconnected line.

The girl I was working with took him home that night, and the next morning found the owners by the address!

    His name was Cracker!

I understand that it's a very sad thing when a pet passes away but it's weird that everyone thinks of going to an internet forum centered around a webcomic for sympathy. I guess it's the same thought process that makes people post while drunk.

I saw two baby squirrels fall out of a fifty foot tree today. One died and one lived and was found by its mom later. I think another squirrel pushed them out.

They weren't doggies but baby squirrels are still really cute.

Edit: And yeah, really sorry about your dog man. I lost mine over the summer, it was really sad. All you can really do is remember the good times.
