if someone wants to interview you and you dont know what job you applied for (and cant tell because it isnt listed and you applied through craigslist) is it okay to ask, and how should i phrase it to make myself not sound like an idiot
i asking you guys because i trust you more than h/a
Before doing that, scour your emails for any evidence.
I wouldn't ask, though. It sounds like you're just pouring out mass emails in hopes of snagging something. Even if that's what you did.

I personally would just ask. Going in totally unprepared and not knowing what the job is for, would look far worse than just asking in the first place and being able to do your research beforehand.
You guys do research a company before you go in for interviews right? Because HR people fucking love it when you can recite the company history, they lap that shit up.
The only thing more awkward than a job interview is turning down a job right after an interview because you got called for a way more awesome position like 10 minutes before said interview and just ended up going for practice.

You should ask not what your job is, but rather what your duties will be. "What will I be doing during a normal day of work?"
Bacon: Well, I have a graphic design degree to go with my advertising degree and I've worked as a professional designer for 3 years now in advertisng. The degree in itself doesn't give you the tools you need to make it, but rather it helps you polish what you can already do. What I did find was that pursuing a degree often gives you lots of connections that will help you get a job later on. Degrees are OK, so long as you don't believe that they are a magical gateway to work... I'd rather hire someone with no degree and mad skills than with a PhD in art and really bad design sense.
If I may be so bold as to jump in, despite the fact that everyone here seems to think that no one can express opinions without being angered themselves. Which makes no sense, as it has nothing to do with them and we can post whatever we please on the vastness of the interwebz.
I would like to point out that I completely agree with you. And that the position I was defending in my last post (though I know you are responding to Bacon, not me, it's relevant) was not that degrees are a magical gateway to work. Rather, I find myself at least partially ruffled because the "opposing side" to mine (No degrees ftw!)seems to think that schools that give degrees are somehow inferior. Which is, to be frank, rebellious bullshit. It'd be like saying the Surgeon General warnings on tobacco are wrong because the government always lies to us. For no reason.
Degree or no, anyone who sucks at drawing, designing, painting, or any other form of art won't get a job. But just because you have a degree doesn't mean that you're bad at art, and just because a school offers a degree doesn't mean that it's bad at teaching art. And in fact, I think that it'd be better to just apprentice with a master than go to Watts Atelier or any Art College. But that's just not always an option.
Watts Atelier may be a great school.
You don't need a degree to get a job. The connections help.
Schools that offer degrees can be good at teaching.

I love how everything in my house is comically large, one comically large box of ritz crackers please, allow me to take it back where I have my comically large clipboard and briefcase

see, i didn't know the name of the company (just what they did) in the craigslist posting, and there are so many ... i've gone through all of my emails and whatnot, i cant figure out which it is. and i can't search by email address because the craigslist addresses are anonymized. fffff. i know that i like the company (they seem super smart) and i know that i wouldn't apply to anything too low $ wise and too boring job wise ... so ... i'll just research the company and assume it's an exec asst position.

Better yet, assume it's for a CEO postion, act all asshole like and ask where the rest of the board members are, then ask for 500k a year and a company mercedez with a driver. They'll be so over-awed by your powerful business asshole acumen that they'll offer you whatever you want.
EDIT: Man I love this new sig, it doesn't matter what I say D-Robe agrees with me.

D-Robe cares about what D-Robe thinks....sometimes.
Mustang is right, though usually Mustang is wrong.
Also, fuck you Mustang. This is what I get for agreeing with you one time in a moment of weakness?!
You are a bad man.
Guys, I'm going to defend getting degrees. I already have ONE and now I'm getting a HIGHER, more IMPORTANT one and I'm NOT IN DEBT and I'm going to be AWESOME. Fuck everyone!
I've never known a man to be so besotted his penis being rubbed to an appropriate conclusion that he completely gives up all his refrigerator real estate to sugary beverages.
If by bad, you mean completely awesome, then I agree.
I do not agree, despite what I say in your signature. This is how cold, callous, heartless forum-dwellers(metalbourne) are created. Do we really need another one of those?

That's true, but it's better than no one agreeing with him. Maybe.

A creative arts degree is a cleverly designed deed to a cardboard box.
Maybe I can barter with some of the artists here!
