I tried, but he has friends on Vaizel. Arguably the choice to join me is as much his as the choice to join him is mine, but.. well, I'm just not good at ultimatums.
Vaziel is the de facto douchebag server. Feel free to roll there and declare your independence from rational thinking and reasonable thought.
Or you can join us on Yustiel, with the rest of the human race.
The choice, as they say, is yours.
Don't worry, I've seen to it that he's been swayed to the right server.
Hmm I seem to be having a problem. I downloaded the 1.5 client. It was like 9.1GBs i think. I installed it and the NCSoft Launcher but when I open it it tries to update Aion and gets Error 36 PatchCommunicationError. Now anyone know what this error is? It has been happening for the last 3 days as I've ben trying to update to be ready to get my names. Last time I tried was around 10 hours ago which apprently is after the servers went up. I also tried to manually install the patch and it just won't work.
I tried the repair feature every time including this morning and it just gives the exact same error. Oh well, I'm sure there will be plenty of good names left when I get back home on Sunday night.
Ok so can someone tell me which servers and races for each are we rolling on, I haven't kept up with this thread as i've been without internet for a week.
Damn. We have a lot of people tanking for the Sorcelators
That's good, that means I won't feel guilty for playing DPS. The only game I've like tanking in so far has been late-TBC and current Warrior tanking in WoW. I didn't like "tanking" in FFXI, only tanked as a Warden in LotRO (much later in my LotRO career), I was melee heals in WAR (DoK for life), the list goes on and on. Give me high DPS some/minimal CC and I'm happy (unless your game has a melee healer).
Ranger for me. Probably a Cleric on the side with a dash of some melee class in between.
Combat has a more "meaty" feel to it (as a melee character) but I'd say combat speed is slower than WoW. Now by that I mean combat from start to finish. As an okay geared shadow priest in WoW I'm killing non-elites (for dailies and such) with VT, MB, MF which is about 4.5 seconds of casting/global cooldowns. You won't find 4-5 second combat in Aion.

You know, I'm fine with that. It looks really engaging.
Also pretty. Kinda fell off my radar for a bit, then I realize headstart is tomorrow.
Yeah, I'm not saying the slower combat pacing from beginning to end is a bad thing, just different. I really mean it when I say the melee combat feels "meaty" though. I played a Fury warrior pre-TBC and a Combat rogue for early TBC raiding and I wish combat felt like it has as much weight as it does in Aion. (I have entirely too many WoW characters.)

Appreciate the feedback.
20% done downloading. The Headstart is tomorrow at 12:00 PDT. Looking forward to it.
I have a future Ranger (Apollo) and Chanter (Raphael) on Yustiel. I was pretty set on going chanter but I got the best names ever, so I might have to play both.
According to my scientific experimentation the combat in Aion is approximately 29.4 times as satisfying as the combat in WoW. +/- 5%
Indeed, I like how you can fight as an assassin, using back attacks that are generally opening moves in MID combat if you can manage to run around your opponent and launch the attack before they turn around.
So i was thinking about picking this up but I was reading on the forums that due to shoddy client/server programming a ping of over 150 can cut your dps by 30-60% depending on class..and i usually ping about 200 to the east coast (which is no problem in most mmos) where all the servers are. anyone know if this is true/false/slightly true but mostly just people whining for the sake of whining?
I had similar problems with asmo on Zikel yesterday. Give it a few hours to balance out and then try again. I happened to be up at 6:30am est and tried, that time it worked.
I am bored as shit. Thought about reactivating WoW - but this looks like it has the right mix of lore (WoW) with the right mix of PvP (Warhammer) to satisfy. Heard a complaint that the starting areas are pretty much the same (which I guess makes sense if you only have two factions. . .) - but how tedious does it get making new characters?
The types of things you do are the same, but the starting areas themselves look very different. I personally liked the Elyos starting area a little bit better.

I liked it a whole lot better. Visually, and the quest layout can be done much more efficiently. I get out of the starting zone very quickly now.
But by your third character on the same faction you'll be asking for a "Skip the First 10 Levels" button. At least, I was. After 1 Asmo and 3 Elyos characters I didn't want to do either starting area again. That's part of the reason why I skipped the last beta weekend.

It'd be nice if you could save a character at your level 10 ascension so you could easily try out both paths without having to replay the exact same path again.
Anyone actually done the PvP yet? My current MMO is Warhammer but all my chars are on Phoenix Throne server (low/low population) and my alliance imploded because they went to Aion.
For me, open world PvP is a big deal; why I went Warhammer over WoW.

Damn. Yea, that's what I was afraid of. Well, what about the quests after level 10. Is it more WoW-Based or WAR-based in that with WoW I could go to various areas after leaving The Orc or Tauren starting area to continue my travels; whereas in WAR you're basically locked doing the same quests in the same progression.
And whoa, the fellow who did 12 Kingdoms soundtrack worked on this? That soundtrack is incredible.

The leveling areas are fairly linear. At least from what I experienced. I only got up to 16 in beta.
And YES to the idea of same-class Ascension skip. The fact that I'm playing a Ranger first makes me dread coming back and doing a Assassin. Scout is probably the worst starter class to level.
This is a silly question. Is it too late to buy a digital version and get in on the headstart?
I don't think so. I just bought one off NCSoft website and it has all the benefits of pre-order. The default installer was way too f'ing slow though (500MB in like 15 minutes), so I went the alternate route.

For the few of you who've played WoW - is the combat faster or slower? I know there is combos and stuff like that.
I'm going to watch some youtube videos to decide if this will have more content than CO. :+
I just watched the podcasts..
Fuuuuuuckk gotta buy.

I'm thinking about playing Asmodian instead, but we'll see. Mainly I like their armor better, and they have a better story to represent.
Edit: Zikel is open for Asmo right now.
Yeah sorry about that, I took xXxLegolasxXx :P
I want to know more PA people on Twitter.
DAMN YOU!

If the manes annoy me, I will be back. But I think the armor will make up for it.
