This is a silly question. Is it too late to buy a digital version and get in on the headstart?
I don't think so. I just bought one off NCSoft website and it has all the benefits of pre-order. The default installer was way too f'ing slow though (500MB in like 15 minutes), so I went the alternate route.
Hopefully I don't need to redownload all that shit I had to d/l from the open beta.
- After analyzing our open beta test results Aion will not feature GameGuard at launch. We will however continue to pursue ways to effectively utilize GameGuard within Aion in the future. Right now we're focused on providing players with the best possible Aion experience.
I wonder though what this will mean for those of us who already have it installed. Will there be some sort of utility I can download to remove it, or am I going to have to delete and reinstall my client, or what?
I presume they will just push a small patch on Sunday or Tuesday that will remove it. I could be wrong, but from my understanding GameGuard only runs when the game is active right? I don't think it permanently maintains a rootkit on your system.
If they don't have a patch to remove it, I'm pretty sure you just delete the GameGuard folder. Normally when you delete that folder, the game will just redownload it when you start.
I think I'm gonna pick this up when I get some money this Tuesday, because it looks damn awesome. I guess just pick from one of those two servers in the OP and have at it when I grab it?

Did it on purchase. In any case they don't even tell you your code when you buy it from them because it can only be applied to the NCSoft master account that you buy it with.

Before they removed the creation caps on factions 5 of the NA servers were Elyos only and none of them were Asmo only. That kind of worries me that Elyos will be underpopulated.

I'm pretty sure it's always been like that. At least for digital purchases. I'd ask them in store how they utilize this system, but with Gamestop pre-orders, and various others I've done - once you accept the pre-order bonus, you've bought the game.

I pre-ordered the game from GameStop months ago and was able to log in and save my 2 names, so I assume I'll be able to log in tomorrow.
From what I understand, they give you at least a few days after launch to pick up your pre-order and input the new key.
The grace period after launch is 24 hours. If you don't have a retail key in your possession by noon (pacific) on Sept 23, you will be unable to log in to your account.
Oh, damn. I just realized the 20th is tomorrow. I'd better get my homework started...

You can actually still do the character creation process even after you've made 2 characters you just can't save it on the server.
You can however write down all the appropriate numbers then delete your character, rebuild the perfect build, and then once the five minute grace period on the deletion runs out click create.

It is too late in the game to do a Pre-order -> Cancel -> Still play to see if you like it. The reason being that it usually takes 48 hours for the Beta Access key to be processed and sent to you. A canceled pre-order just means that you forfeited the 5 dollar deposit you placed on the game.
If you pre-order directly from NC Soft, online, for the DIGITAL (as in no box or physical goodies) then you are automatically added and can access the game's Name Reservation right now. I dunno if NC Soft does direct box purchases and then ships them, but if they do then you would most certainly get into the pre-launch right away.
Even if you're too late to get into the pre-launch, you would still get the various minor bonuses to the game for pre-ordering through places like Gamestop or Amazon right now.

There is a Daeva of Fashion in the game you can find, and pay to have your body redone. Face, hair, fat percentage and all. There is even a sex change option with another guy. So the game is very open to further customization.

I wouldn't expect, honestly, at this point you'll actually get in the headstart, but you should still get the code when you get the game at the very least so you'll get the pre-order items.
When I e-mailed their customer service yesterday they said that I should get my preorder code tomorrow being 5 days after my order. I'm fine with that as long as it does come. got family coming over all day anyway so I wouldn't be able to dork around with the headstart much till late.
They said if I didn't get it then to contact them to get it.
Wow, Zikel is filling up. It's the only server locked right now out of all of them. Yustiel's recommended, so it's probably pretty empty.

If we need another Asmodian server (though it doesn't look like we do), I would vote for Siel [West], unless we have people who really prefer East coast. West seems better all around for US folk.
