Steel is alright if everyone is experienced and knows what the hell to do. If not, it turns into a horrible meatgrinding shitfest for whichever side has the least experienced team.

Actually I become a invaluable asset to the team since last time I did that I had a sniper (rifle+jarate) and 2 engies chase me around CP E for a good 6 minutes.

huh I really only saw the 'punching heavy' bit. Yeah that is being a dick, whoops. I'm a bit over-defensive of punching heavy because I enjoy it so much.
I still can't get used to the Huntsman, at all. I can say with a fair amount of confidence that if an enemy was standing completely still at only a nominal distance away I would not hit them after even 3 attempts. I still prefer the normal Sniper Rifle but I'm pretty awful with that too.
P.S. Does anyone know why some of my stats keep going down? For example, a little while ago I had 21 points in one life as a scout, and when I checked this on the loading screen stats page it said as much, but the next time I started up the game it had gone back to 13, the max points I had as scout before I got 21 points.

Shoot down hallways or at choke points. Like don't even aim at something just shoot at things, or try to take aim at distracted people. It's a luck weapon. Most of the time I actually end up missing and I've kinda switched back to the rifle at this point.
If you shoot more, you'll get more experience and then you can start guessing as to wear people are going, when they will get there, how long it takes the arrow to travel and how to compensate for the arcing.

The Huntsman seems so completely random to me. Sometimes I'll have a good round where I headshot nearly every shot I take, then for some reason the next I'll miss even hitting someone when everyone is grouped up like on a KOTH point. But forget actually trying to aim the damn thing and hit with it. I've missed heavies moving at a snail pace, taking plenty of time to make sure I was leading the shot correctly.
It's almost like the serverside lag compensation decides to fuck with me on a round by round basis.
I just plain suck with the rifle, though. I'm only good at hitting people if they don't move at all...
