My little sister got a 2nd Gen Nano for Christmas and I have an old Mini. For whatever reason, the computer recognizes mine, but sees hers as a Plug-And-Play device and asks me to install drivers. It's frustrating and I haven't been able to find any solutions. I've been on her account on the computer trying to connect it (all the USB ports, restarted multiple times) and don't recall having this much trouble with having the computer recognize my iPod when I installed it. Help is appreciated soon, she's getting impatient, but thank you.
Did it come with a disc with iPod software on it? You probably need to install that first, especially since it's a significantly newer model than your Mini.
Did you follow the instructions? As I recall from buying my sister an iPod there is a specific order you are supposed to do things in, it isn't as simple as just plugging it in. I succeeded in making a right mess of the iPod and had to go through a series of steps to recover it.
I have iTunes 7.2 and it is on a seperate account, I've done the basic troubleshooting stuff. I did the 5 R's or whatever on Apple's site, I've done everything that is spelled out for me.
So are you using a windows computer or a Mac Mini? I'm confused.
However, the latest iTunes should allow you to use multiple iPods (regardless of type or generation) on the same computer.
I just set 3 Nano's for my cousins and aunt yesterday. The f'in program knew what COLOR each one was. Then distinguished between them after I plugged them all in again. This was on an XP box.
The simple solution might be to reinstall iTunes.

You have to be using seperate XP user accounts.
Also, to support the Nano, you have to be running the latest version of iTunes.

They could go either way.
