I'm trying to find some cheap/free/open source software to replace flash as an animation tool. Anyone know of anything?

LiveSwif is freeware after the company's failure.

There's also SMIL, but that's not really cross-compatible.

Oh dear jesus no. Powerpoint is for boring business slides, not web animation.

When OpenSWIF comes out, it should be a good alternative as well - but I don't think it's out quite yet.

i know powerpoint is the absolute wrong thing, but I'm trying to teach animation on the super cheap. Powerpoint should work for getting the principle across and making a simple animation. If I had macs I could use keynote which does tweening
