It's also rather telling that D2D doesn't even have a support forum. Methinks they don't want a central location for customers to complain about how terrible the service is.

Ok, still not too happy with D2D's support, but at least I got a response with a new activation code that hopefully will work. Reading back over the auto response to the initial ticket, it simply directed me to my account info for the activation code which is still pretty dumb because I specifically selected that it didn't work. So at that point it was considered resolved. But when I updated the ticket complaining that no one had responded, someone got back to me within an hour.

Hmm, that's too bad. I have a couple games from D2D and have never had a problem with them, besides the service being less convenient than Steam.

Dru, sorry the service is shit. I just saw the link for Titan Quest for $5 and thought I'd share. I already have the game, so I had no idea how their process works, or doesn't as the case may be.

Overall I'd say it's still worth the $5 and most people won't have problems. However if you do have problems, be prepared to wait for a response.

Ok, fair enough. It is only $5 after all. I think I'm just annoyed because I spent way too long recently getting some older games to work with Vista.

Aside from really old games, I haven't really had problems with Vista and I don't think my activation problem had anything to do with Vista.

I am a little pissed that MS went from Vista to W7 so quickly. I wonder how much longer they'll actively support Vista.

Have you tried through school? Even CC's can get discounted student editions and if yours doesn't just wait till you start at UW you might even get it for free.

Oh, I've got connections that work for MS.

I just don't have the cash to get a copy and Vista works fine enough as is. It's just so much better.

So I'd just like to update about buying TQ Gold on Direct2Drive for only $5. While the price is pretty sweet, let me share my experience so far. I bought the game, already have TQ so I just downloaded the expansion, and unlike Steam, I have to not only enter a cd key for the game (which I got from D2D and seemed to work fine) but when you actually try to run the game for the first time it also requires an activation code. I don't fucking get why I need an activation code and a cd key, but fucking whatever. I try to activate the game using the activation code they provided, and no dice. I check their FAQ and since I'm on Vista I make sure I'm running it in admin mode and that I've given the app permission through Windows Defender so it's not blocking it. No dice, keeps telling me the activation code is invalid.

Fine, fucking whatever. I go D2D's support page and I file a ticket explaining what I've done so far and that I seem to need a new activation code. Fast forward to almost 24 hours later, and the jackasses haven't responded yet.

So a word of warning, D2D support seems to be utter crap so far.

My card was declined 3 times, which left 3 pending holds on my bank account that finally disappeared. I'm not very impressed, I'll stick to Steam.

The thing was that as bad as Vista wasn't, it had a huge stigma of being terrible. Everybody kept hearing about how bad it is, so they wanted to rush the new one out the door as quickly as possible. They did a pretty good job though.

though depending on how tight you are for money you may just want to get TQ Gold on Steam for $20 instead of risking any bullshit on D2D even if it's only $5 there

Man I tried killing Typhon as lvl 25 with basically only stuns and area attacks to see how well it would go. I got my shit fucked.

Then I just followed my original plan to re-skill into maxed out battle standard and colossus form and sure enough I could auto-attack him to death.

soooo you might want to, I don't know, respec

I mean, you're dual wielding at level 5? that's not going to boost your dam much and your defense is crap because you're not using a shield

instead you should have put points into onslaught which gives you better damage early on in the game and allows you to use a shield

also you should have lots of potions when you're fighting him and chug them whenever the cd is up

unfortunately the mystic doesn't appear until quite a bit later in the first act so you might just want to start over, but basically you got stonewalled because you didn't think about how you could take him on more effectively

he's tough, but he's not that tough

That's because in D2 there's not nearly as much choice available

plus you never have the option to respec later on

but I guess if you don't want to think at all about what skills to put your points into, this isn't the game for you

you can't remove points from the mastery itself anyway.

In theory, he could run back and forth at the centaur's leash range while shooting him with a shitty bow, making him run back and forth without hitting him. It would only take several hours to finally get him down, I bet!!

Another way would probably be to just get another level and then put one point in war horn and two in onslaught.

Also, I got my shit ruined by Andariel the first time I played Diablo II because I played a necromancer with nothing but points in summon skeleton (I wanted an army!). She would spray them all down and then I'd only have my melee attack. So it is possible to fail even at diablo, if you're a big ol' dummy.

also Duriel is a crazy motherfucker

Actually he may benefit from more points in the mastery depending on how many he put into dual wield considering he's only level 5. Having more health would be a big help. There is some strategy as well since the bulk of his damage comes from his roar, so learning how to avoid it will help tremendously. But yeah, would probably be a good idea to go back through some earlier zones to level up before trying him again.

Cool. Check the demo out but keep in mind that it doesn't take you that far into the game, and because you don't choose a class at the start you don't really get a good sense of how the different masteries play. If you do end up buying it, be sure you get TQ Gold because the expansion adds some nice utility to the game including a caravan dude that lets you swap equipment between characters so you can have a more powerful character send better gear to a lower level character.

Also to honey nut, thinking more about that cyclops I'm pretty sure you were several levels too low to take him on. I don't remember precisely but I think I was around level 10 when I fought him. I suspect that another problem is that you're just rushing through the zones and not taking all the side quests and searching for all the monsters. More quests and more monsters to kill mean more exp.

Since I just got the expansion, I can't speak from personal experience but I've heard that Spirit is pretty powerful. However I don't know if that applies to starting with Spirit or just taking it later as a second mastery.

spirit is pretty good, but you'll definitely want to get your mastery high enough to get the Lich so he can tank for you and help dish out damage
