As you can tell from the link, the design director has left the game. He says it's mostly done, though his claims of vision clashing don't really give me high hopes.
Also how depressing is it that that shitty Vita game is coming out first? At least Downpour MIGHT be good. BoM can't be.

Silent Hill 3 is totally worth playing. Especially if you've played the first game. Sure the combat hasn't made any progress, but the story and atmosphere are excellent. Plus, it has my favorite soundtrack of the series.
I'll get Downpour at some point in the future, but not right now. I actually more interested in the HD collection.

And if you're an achievement/trophy whore you have your work cut out for you in the worst of ways.

Following up with what I asked earlier... it seems like the HD collection kind of ruins the atmosphere of the third game (which again, haven't played) based on this video posted by Gamespot.
That's my conflict. 2 is one of my all time favorites, and I think it looks great, but 3 in HD looks so... grey and washed out. 3 in SD looks so dark and dynamic.
Just saw that comparison video, felt my stomach turn. Not in the good SH way, either.
I'm really hoping this is a case of a bad capture, but so far it looks like Konami utterly fucked up this HD collection.
Both games may be cleaner and show off more of the screen, but the colors clearly do not match the grimy originals. Even worse, the FMV sequences from SH2 seem to have been stretched out to just fill the screen.

It'll be a wait-and-see with these upcoming releases. I'll be really damn surprised if Downpour ends up being good.
A couple of forums I read have posts from people who got it early. A lot of them seem to enjoy it quite a bit and say that it's a step up from the disappointment that was Homecoming.
I won't accept anything less than a proper Silent Hill atmosphere.
Shattered Memories barely had any real scares or monsters, but still completely nailed the SH feel. Why they didn't use those guys to make the next follow-up is beyond me.
They seem to have just missed out a blood and grime layer in the otherworld portion of SH3 there. Very odd.
Also I loved SH1, 2 and Shattered Memories but 3 didn't massively do it for me. The plot just didn't seem to go anywhere new compared to SH1 and I wasn't keen on how:
the monsters were able to leave Silent Hill to go and kill Harry.

well, it was actually
the Cult, not exactly monsters, no? Supported by what that cult leader blond guy tell Heather, "They looked monsters, to you?". I believe in this specific instance it was cult members, which were perceived as monsters by Heather's fractured mind.

apparently I forget how to write in english, every now and then.

The implication in Silent Hill 3 is:
The 'god' inside Heather is able to seep out enough energy to cause the immediate area (IE, the one Heather is in) to twist into the Otherworld. Once this effect has started, Claudia herself seems to have limited control and is able to command things to her will. That would explain why she was able to have a monster kill Harry but the scenery was otherwise unchanged.
Keep in mind, it's very much likely that she only had a very weak ability and the 'powers that be' were purposely helping her to get to Heather. The 'god' had no trouble killing her at the end of the game once she was no longer useful.
As for what Vincent said, it's fairly obvious he was just fucking with her. It's shown that all four of the people in the game can see the Otherworld and Douglas comments on encountering monsters. That being said, if the 'rules' follow over from Silent Hill 2, then it can be assumed that while Heather, Douglas and probably Vincent see monsters, that Claudia sees angels or some other form of 'good' creature. The way she talks it's heavily implied that what she sees is much different (and nicer) than what everyone else does.
Keep in mind, SH3 is probably the last SH game where I, personally, feel there was any sort of story/logic consistency. The games after that, for better or worse, all did their own thing and I think it's best to say that SH 1 and 3 (and probably 2) all share the same place, while everything else is loosely tied, at best.
That's what gets me from SH. I don't think they ever got the combat right. Getting rid of combat was one of the reasons I LOVED SM. I mean, Silent Hill works best when it's an adventure game. Finding clues, doing puzzles, running away from something. I don't think RE's solution was the right answer either (let's make it a 3rd person shooter!).

I'm not happy at all that we didn't get the HD Collection in October; getting that and MGS HD back-to-back would have been amazing.
At least setting it two months apart should help drum up interest for Downpour. The question, of course, is whether it will be good.
As long as the HD collection gets the same love as the MGS one, I'll be happy.

Hmm that is really not a good sign for downpour.
Will this be the game that kills the franchise?
I'm hoping Downpour is decent, but that Vita game, I have no idea how they think that could be anything but horrible.

The Wiimake was good and I enjoyed the PSP one. There's still hope!
Also, Silent Hill 2 has wrapped shooting and is in post-production. Sean Bean and Rahda Mitchell are returning!
Sadly, I think the Vita game may do it. I can't think any of the past few SH games were largely well received.

a) Well-received
b) Good
I don't think it sold very well.

This was put up awhile ago but I don't see it here.

I'm also curious what dedicated fans are thinking of regarding Downpour. Excited? Not excited?

It's actually quite excellent. Wow.
And if you're an achievement/trophy whore you have your work cut out for you in the worst of ways.
Should I skip the HD collection and get the PC version of 3 instead? A lot of people seem to agree that it's an outstanding version of the game.

I don't have a good feeling...at all.
I was also ready to give up completely on Downpour, but so far one guy seems to like it: http://www.destructoid.com/review-silent-hill-downpour-222794.phtml

He says almost as many redeeming things as bad and yet it garners a 4.5? The way his review read, I would expect a 7ish score.
