So, this isn't super pressing since I'm getting windows 7 when it comes out next month, but windows vista is being a dick and when I searched this problem online it just came up with forums that weren't much help. I turn over my quest for knowledge to Penny Arcade.
My computer works great, all the time. But when I put my computer to sleep, it wakes up with no sound. There are no errors in device manager and sound mixer even shows sound playing. But I can't hear shits. Everything is plugged in correctly. Windows has a fix for something similar to this, but it is included in SP1 and I'm running SP2.
Sound is restored when I restart my computer.
Anyone experience this or know a better way to stalk google for it? Thanks
I had this exact problem in Vista and Win7 until I found the correct sound drivers. Turns out Windows was using some generic ones. I have a Gateway laptop (P-173XL FX) which is pretty nice gaming rig, but the constant sound problems were driving me crazy. I eventually found some Vista drivers that worked fine in Win7 (gateway isn't great on updating their support site) and haven't had problems since.
