More importantly, teachers are people. Nothing annoys someone marking stuff more then getting the impression that you didn't try and you don't care about the class. If you don't give a fuck, why should they?
If you look like you tried, you'll get marked closely. If it looks like you didn't try, they're not even going to try and give you marks.
I did try on this paper, and on the final copy you can see where I made changes on my own and added things and generally just tried to improve
Hell, on the rough draft you can see that I tried to make it a decent paper, despite being about how I've been a shitty student for 12 years
She's not basing her opinion on anything other than the choice of topic. Not my skill, not the amount of effort I put into the paper. Just the topic of that paper.
also, anecdotal evidence, but most english teachers eat up formulatic bullshit like it's fresh apple pie.
most of the time when students try to get creative, it just ends up making you feel bad because they trash your ideas and try to reshape them to their ideas
there's a difference between "you should rework this bit here, it doesn't fit with the rest of the story or style" VS "hey here this guy should maybe say this instead? try that, i like that."
The problem with English, is it strikes me as something you’re either adept at or you’re not. Very hard to go more than a grade in either direction. Unless you’ve been putting in absolutely zero effort in your work. Especially so at Uni level.
Eh I think everyone's capable of at least communicating ideas through writing

I had a business communications course that was essentially just an english class. I wasn't overly enthused with the class but I got by alright in it with a B. Something about the teacher just threw me off though...especially when he told us the tail of how when he went to school they called the students "Master" followed by their last name. His last name was Bates. While it got a few laughs I just found his whole attitude towards it just seemed awkward to me.
writing courses are very much about how much the instructor likes your personality, opinions and personal style.
You have obviously gotten off on a bad start with this teacher. Try to fix that or you have no hope of an A.

First, stop taking any of this personally. She got a paper that she didn't think was great, talking about what a bad student the author is.
She gave some feedback (sure, it was lousy, whatever)
Now this time right here is when you should have gone to talk to her, but you are a bad student, so you might not know that.
Then you change some stuff, and go back and talk to here again.
English teachers are doing a job that is almost completely subjective. You are going to need to sit down with them.
Don't worry so much about everyone else's feed back. Maybe they mis-spelled a lot of words, and so were given more intuitive feedback... I am guessing she would have felt better if you had made the paper about how you wanted to improve as a student, but whatever. I am not her. You really should make an effort to meet with her after each draft.
anecdote:
I had a rough draft my freshman year, where I didn't like the comments. I went in to talk to her, and discovered that she really didn't like much about the paper at all. She did like one paragraph though. So I took that paragraph and wrote a paper on it.
Bottom line, especially now that she thinks you are a slacker student (because thats what you told her) you need to make the extra effort and find out what she wants.

Why, why, why do I have to be 30?

There is an alternative. Do you have a tall building nearby?

It's the best age. I am strangely looking forward to being 30. You're a proper adult and all the cool stuff that goes with that.
There goes your hopes of ever becoming a movie star.
No matter how much dick you can suck.
