So to prove I'm not a spy I need to say loudly "I'M A SPY YOU ALL SHOULD ACCEPT ME AS A MEMBER AND GIVE ME ALL YOUR SECRETS!!111!!!"
In your logic I can't be a spy then
You are incorrect.
Damn.
Even if by some miracle I do get accepted I doubt I can contribute much. I think MerchI only want very active members and I think I will be a more casual gamer.
I'm a pretty casual guy and they seem pretty cool with me taking up space.
So I'm going to give this the 21 day trial to see if I'm into this; otherwise, I'm going to switch over to Star Trek Online and give that a shot to hold me over until The Old Republic comes out.
So I get that it's good to do the tutorial. Should I be prepared to be blown to bits frequently in the early part of the game?

Early part, middle part, end part... Basically the rule of thumb is: Am I in space? Then I will die.
If you don't die make a note of it in your diary. That day will never come again.

Since we've got a few new people asking (and doubtless others lurking) about playing, let me give people a lowdown on what is going on in game for Penny-Arcaders right now:
We're part of the many thousand strong Goonswarm Alliance (of Somethingawful.com). This makes us a force to be reckoned with, even if PAers are known mostly as money-grubbing bastards who don't fight much. During the last year, we sucessfully pulled the rug out from under the eveil Band of Brothers alliance, our long-time enemies, via some epic spying (a spy disbanded their entire alliance). We then took their homeland, Delve, for ourselves.
Now, flashforward to January. Most of the directors are burnt out over the intese administration needed to keep Delve under wraps and maintain various alliance functions. Many are on 'vacation'. In particular the CEO is completely incommunicado for two weeks. We are currently at war, with the enemy on our doorstep (but held back easily). And at this point in time, this juncture, one of the directors forgets to pay the rent.
The lights go out in Delve.
This is the equivilant of working for a multi-million dollar company with thousands of employees, and forgetting to pay for the rent. And the power, registering trademarks, paying employees, etc. All hell breaks loose. So now, we've evacuated most people/stuff, as the enemy that was previously at our doorstep is now in the goddamn bedroom, using the bathroom, and leaving shit everywhere.
We're trying to figure out where to go next, and this will likely mean invading ~somewhere~, and soon. However, for newbies, this is great! You have nothing to lose, and now we're running daily ops with cheap, disposable ships, blowing things up and getting blown up. It's a great time to learn to play, and in a week or two, you can take part in a full-blown invasion - the best part of EvE, IMHO.
Does anyone know if a drone boat like the Myrmidon is PvP viable in 0.0? I was thinking of training up to use one, but I don't want to gimp myself.
Drone based ships are abysmal in pvp.
Save yourself the frustration and train amarr or minmatar.
You can use drones in PvP, but mostly for support. Sniper drones can be used for direct combat, to an extent. Not for fleet battles. If you spec Gallente for fleet stuff, you'll be best at remote-repping with drones helping. Until you get to Carriers, but that takes a good year.
So I'm going to give this the 21 day trial to see if I'm into this; otherwise, I'm going to switch over to Star Trek Online and give that a shot to hold me over until The Old Republic comes out.

Someone once said: "Every ship you take into space is just an explosion waiting to happen. It's not a matter of when, but how." If you're not comfortable with losing a ship, don't fly it.
So even though the email told me I had until January 31st to get 5 free days on my old character I tried to activate today and it worked. I haven't played EvE in years and have no idea where I am or what I have. The client is downloading as I type this and I would, after I get the game up and running, like a heads up on what maybe I should be doing to trying to do. I was thinking of just starting over with a new char but I'd like to hear from you guys first.
Thanks,
-David

If you've still got Goonfleet forums access, the answers are there. In simple terms, sell your shit, podjump to Orvolle (or slowboat if you have implants) and join fleets to kill things in cheap ships.
Do all this AFTER making sure you're still in Merchi.

Also whatever you do, don't go to Orvolle if you're in Merchi. There's basically 40+ hostiles camping all entrances and exits to the system and goons are still too disorganized to get any sort of control over it.

I stopped about 5 jumps away, assuming that whenever I have a chance to buy some rifters I can just olololololol over whatever target gets declared. Seems like that's not a terrible idea.
I read somewhere that you can buy time on EVE with ISK is that true or is this just a fairy tale?
So basically MerchI is accepting people? But I thought one have to be a certain level before you can join faction fights?
You can buy game time with ISK, though you kind of have to go through a roundabout method to do it. It's fully supported by CCP though.
Right now Merchi is in full-on paranoia mode about spies and is not accepting any new members. If you just want to try the game out and would like a free 21 day trial, send me a PM and I'll hook you up, and I'll be happy to answer any noobie questions you have.
Oh I was never in Merchi or Goonfleet. I played in 2006 long before I did things on these boards. I just need a guide on how I can get somewhere safe to relearn how to play the game. I literally remember nothing. So here we go with what I have/am.

12-INT 11-PER 7-CHR 20-WILL 10-MEM
34 Skills - 856,070 sp
Pretty much basic stuff. 6 learning skills to lvl 4 which if I remember correctly is good.
Location: Curse Watchtower Sov: Against ALL Authorities EM-L3K Sec Lvl 0.0
I think this is bad I'm guessing if I leave I'll die?
I was in two corps that are now closed, this was around october 2006.
I remember something about jump clones being able to move me around from place to place?
So are these skills worth playing this guy and if so where should I go and how to get there? Perhaps I should just start a new guy, I don't have that much only like 3 mil ISK and ships scattered about.
So where exactly is Merchi basing out of right now, or is it entirely scattered, I'm an old old vet, but the free trial kind of sucked me back in. Were I to re apply could I even find a clustered group of PA pilots?

If you're an old vet you can probably get back in, but I'm no expert on that...
I'm guessing all the newbies should simply runt he tutorial (it's important) and dick around in empire until we've sorted things out. Probably a couple weeks.
Damn, was hoping to get in with Goon and avoid the annoying 'elite' alliances.
Your PA account is really solid so you can surely get in once recruitment reopens. Things are just crazy right now so we're not taking anyone except maybe former members.
Maybe a stupid question, but at what point can someone participate in the pvp action with some decent chance of surviving? Is it a week of playing or a month before one can go in to the player controlled area's?

Although, in Goonfleet, if your Rifter last long enough for you to run out of ammunition on the weapons you are doing it wrong.

In fact the only way to get access to the master wallet in the alliance is to not play eve.
The only way to win is not to play.
Also if anyone is thinking about playing, give it a shot. Even if merchi recruitment is closed you can DO THE TUTORIAL. I'm sure recruitment will open again soon, just have to be patient. And if you aren't patient enough for that, EVE may not be for you. Nothing in EVE happens fast.
Depends. A Rifter may be even less. You will die a LOT at first, but if you pay attention, and are lucky, your little ship can ruin a very vetern player's day even in the biggest, most expensive ship.
Just don't do massive fleet engagements, wherein you will have no chance to do anything due to crushing lag. The one thing I should have made sure to do before quitting the last time was some small gang pvp.
So in goonfleet the definition of a "decent" chance of surviving is about 0.01%?
You're going to die when PvPing, regardless of how many SP you have. It's better to start learning when your ships cost 300k each before insurance rather than 200M - 1B each and are uninsurable.

I've been flying dictors in fleet fights (well I was haha) and so far not a single one has returned alive if we actually engaged with another fleet. I did get out in my Malediction though.
Tacklers of all kinds have a very, very high mortality rate, but it doesn't matter because they're cheap and fun and really fuck people up.
Also if you're a cute newbie and show up on fleet ops and tackle stuff people will throw isk at you to buy more ships.

Sometimes you can live in a rifter. I managed to live during the defense of 1-S from IT, and still got the tackle on a few BSes.
I've been playing for years and tackling is still all I ever do in fleets. I trained up for dictors but haven't had a chance to learn how to use it yet.

Then again you don't have a post count that I can count with my hands and nut sack (two balls)
long story short, train it since you'll be using the skills anyways.
the drone boat you are thinking of is a Dominix.
