Manage iTouch G2 Without iTunes?

Like many people, I can't stand using iTunes, or any of their related programs. It hogs RAM, its unreliable, and their syncronization system always screws people over. I know theres alternatives to itunes, but I haven't been able to find a program that supports the iTouch G2. I tried a program (MediaMonkey, http://www.mediamonkey.com/information/free/) That claims to be compatible with the itouch 2G, but its not in their configuration settings.
Also, would this be easier to do if I jailbroke it, (sorry, don't know if this is illegal to talk about, let me know) or is it still the same concept?
Any help would be appreciated!
