Best thing to do for Sheva is equip her with a rifle or magnum only. She will destroy your opponents.

    Rifle/shotgun works better

She'll chew through all your precious magnum ammo faster than you'd like, and shotgun ammo grows like weeds in Not-Africa

I just want another RE game where I can shoot zombies that isn't an on-rails or lightgun shooter. Is that a lot to ask? Are we done shooting minorities?

The screamers in REmake made up very well I think for the "zombies are too slow" complaint. Load a game full of those things (or some derivative). I miss the creepy atmosphere of the first game, really.

I'm surprised people played RE5 solo. You'd think with the number of people on this site one of you guys could have found someone to play through it.

Playing the last few levels, on professional, personally, can be incredibly tedious. Even through co-op. Five minutes in, and both me and anyone I'm playing with both are both wondering why we don't just enjoy another round of Mercenaries or something that is you know, actually fun.

C'mon DeMoN, you've gotta have a buddy be able to come over and play with you. That's what I did. I've only really played the game online with one person here, the rest of the time I played with a friend at my house.

I think after we beat Gears of War 2, the wife and I will attempt RE5.

Meh, none of my friends were actually interested in RE5. And my T.V. was so shitty at the time that you probably wouldn't be able to see anything when playing splitscreen.

Oh well, I'm thinking I might get the Alternative version on PS3 when it comes out. And when it does I'd totally be down for some co-op fun.

    We must play together sometime.

In other news I've encountered the 'black screen' bug. What the hell? Supposedly it affects ATi cards mainly, but I'm sporting a 8800GT 512MB. This is very depressing.

To be fair though, you shouldn't have to find a person to help you play through the game in order to enjoy the story mode (which, honsetly, is the majority of the game). I think the option to have the partner there or not would have been nice.

Yeah. Alternative version would be even more worth it if they had a singleplayer mode in which Sheva doesn't even exist. Just play through as Chris. Cutscenes change accordingly.

I'm about 2/3rds of the way through RE5. It's fun and I haven't had too many problems so far with Sheva, though she does get a little too stun baton-happy.

And maybe I pay attention to settings too much, but I've groaned a few times at the ham-handed attempts to softpedal potential accusations of racism. It just pulls me out of the moment when I'm fighting in Africa and I come up against a thin Pugsley Addams and that mustached guy who looks like a Mexican stereotype. And then fighting the guys in grass skirts and finding the journal entry that randomly shoehorns in "by the way, we didn't always wear grass skirts!" Yarrrrrgh.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: why didn't they just make Sheva look full-blooded African and be done with it?

Of Resident Evil 5's many faults, the one that riled me most was having to play the game to completion once just to play as Sheva. It's such a silly little thing to get mad over, but goddamnit I really wanted to play as Sheva.

This is on professional, where you have a second to react and any mistake is instantly fatal over the entire boss fight.

Edit: The way to do it in fact is never need to use the QTE and never even threaten to be hit. Unfortunately every so often I have to do a couple and one failure and it's dead. Thankfully Chris is some sort of ninja and he plinks away constantly with the magnum for great justice.

Everyone knows the Hydra is the best and coolest weapon in RE5.

Which got me thinking which weapon do you associate with each character?Leon has the Matilda , I always think of the grenade launcher when I think of Jill. Samurai edge for Wesker and the .357 for Barry. Maybe the smg for HUNK? What do you guys think?

Turns out the black screen I was experiencing was the monitor shutting off due to Power Options. Which is very strange - should it be doing that, especially when I've got input happening? o_O

Oh well, I've increased it to an hour until I find a proper solution. I'm being very impressed by the MT Framework, that crazy BOW smuggler dude had fantastic facial animation, no doubt helped by the mocapping.

Aw. Most of the mods currently out for RE5 PC are - unfortunately - pretty lame. For the most part, the tools available only support bug-ridden model swaps and new textures. New textures alone have the potential to be rad as hell, but right now the few modders releasing new textures are going through their remove-Sheva's-panties, apply-ugly-makeup-to-Jill, make-everything-black stage. There are a couple - literally, a couple - of diamonds in the rough, though.

Cerberus made a tan BSAA texture for Chris that doesn't dye his hair some dumb colour or just make everything black and call it a day.
    chris_bsaadesertwarfare.jpg

Satyr did make everything black with this Sheva texture, but we can let that slide because goddamn business suit Sheva has style.
    ce1x.jpg
    ce2h.jpg

There's a really nice de-nextgenifier that shows that Resident Evil 5 actually has colours in its textures. My screenshots don't do a very good job of showing it off - largely due to all my system settings being knocked down almost as low as possible. The default shader and its heavy use of shadows does look great at times, but I've really got to go with the colours. Man, just look at those goddamned colours. Spoilers contain a before and after shot, respectively.

Actually, the shots from the two texture swaps are also done with the mod that removes the filters, but they come from somewhat less gimpy PCs. They give a better impression of how it should look.

Yeah, I have everything except the player character models and textures set to minimum - and the resolution's pretty low too - because my PC's ancient. I wouldn't take my hasty screenshot as indicitive of how the game actually looks on anything remotely up-to-date.
