Wasnt there a gun in dark forces that was just like a shotgun? I think it may have been some sort of modified mining lazer....
like, the original dark forces? Yeah, it had the plasma cutter thing. The repeater also had a triple-shot secondary fire.

It was that somehow, from within the derelict-horror, they had learned a way to see inside an ugly, broken thing... And take away its pain.

So they now have an official write up of the Sith Inquisitor on the official site. The story they appear to be building seems similar to the path Revan followed.
Lightsabers evolved from Proto-sabers which were described as using "Frozen-Blaster" technology.
But honestly, if you go to making a "projectile" lightsaber weapon you've pretty much just made the blaster again and a Jedi will be able to deflect it.
And as far as practicality goes, these are the ones that make the most sense:
Standard Sabers
Dual-Phase
Double-bladed
Short Sabers
After those four they start getting a little wiggy.
So uh, I just wanted to make sure everyone was clear on double-bladed lightsabers being for queers. We're clear on that right?
Darth Maul was queer?
Did you see how tatoo'd he was? Probably just another San Francisco faggot!
But really, while Darth Maul and his saber were cool, the moment that happened it kinda took Star Wars to a new level of nerdery because people were better able to combine martial arts styles with Star Wars. And I'm not opposed to either, nor opposed to their combination, but - and I know this is stupid of me - the sheer amount of people who have boners for double-bladed lightsabers makes me turn away from them. Both the boners and the sabers.
I'll stick to wielding a single blade, thank you very much. I have nothing to compensate for, and all the canon badass Jedi needed only the traditional weapon to be badass.
I'm probably not going to play Jedi Knight as my main, but when I get around to the character, I will likely go with using two lightsabers. The single player games made that the strongest combo if you had maxed out the two weapons skill vs. the dueling skill.
maul dying like that really pissed me off. yes, this guy can fight two jedi at the same time, but cant move to block when some kid leaps up from 5yds down a shaft, over his head, and then slashes.
but on that note, how come all ancient jedi were asian?
a jedi will not be my main either. The other classes look too interesting.
Im a bit annoyed that droid isnt a class. I would love to have a character like ig88 or 4lom.
So has anyone heard an assurances from Bioware has given that this game won't be horribly unbalanced? I'm sure, we all want to play [our favorite class] but all you need is one exploitable thing and before you know it every MMO asshole will be like, "what? you play Jedi!? OOMGWTFBBQ NOOB! GTFO of my party, goddamn noob." And you have a billion Inquisitors running around using their "Sith Fart" ability to win PVP fights.
...And then the inevitable nerf which will result in every MMO asshole saying "what? you play Inquisitor!? OOMGWTFBBQ NOOB! GTFO of my party, goddamn noob."
'course, maybe I'm just being naive, since MW2 has it's problems with knife attacks...
I'd really like to play a bounty hunter, and yet I'm so reluctant to face the ridicule I received in countless other MMOs when I played the class I wanted to play instead of the class everyone else thought I should play.
I think Bioware is making the game in a way that you can play it single player style. Personally, I'm gonna probably play through all the classes since they all seem to have unique storylines.

There's really nothing Bioware (or any other MMO company for that matter) can do about imbalances but to roll out patches to fix them. Obviously they're not just gonna sit there and let one class dominate all others. Well, I mean, they might, but that would be a sign of some truly horrific incompetence.
I haven't spent too much time trying to find the new info out on the classes but are there really only the low res 30 second clips of some so so animations?
some of the videos show a couple fights (I think), but for the most part they're keeping everything pretty close to the vest so far. The interviews have stated that they've had a working engine and basic game for a while now, so I'm guessing they're refining everything. Hell, one reported said that the attack animations looked good, if not a little rough but it was still in the alpha stage at that point. But yeah, check out the playthrough video where they're on the sith cruiser, might help a bit.
The chick from Kotaku reviewed a short demo and said it was pretty far from polished. She also said all the female characters seemed to have gigantic boobs.

Nope, and if Bioware is smart they will never EVER make such assurances. Trying to assure an MMO playerbase that a launch MMO will be well balanced, is an act comparable to bobbing for apples in a tub filled with ravenous pirrahnas.
The idea of a perfectly balanced MMO is nice in theory, but in reality it just doesn't exist. Particularly, because in order to achieve a perfectly "balanced" MMO everybody playing it has to be happy with the state of the game - and let's face it, the odds of that happening are so unlikely that it might as well be impossible. You simply can't please everybody, at best all they can hope to do is please as large a portion of their playerbase as they can.

I'm sure they're going to release most of the stuff over the next few months as we'll learn about most of what's going on in the beta anyway. This game is likely coming out this next year, so it's likely we're just going to get a continuing trickle of info every couple weeks or so.
I remember reading in a kotaku review that they're moving through alpha. I'm betting closed beta around April. Open around August. Released during the holiday season.

Speaking of pre-lightsaber, Jedi weapons. I can't tell if this is really silly or really cool.
