I kinda have more respect for people with simple or humble names like Murse though, that are doomed to be mocked. They are a bit more laid back, rather then the "Alexander Mal'Ganus XIII, son of the blah blah blah" that usualy end up being C'Monglers.

P.S, with all this jarble, my name comes out as, Mesda Codow

Gupe Dag, nah, sounds too german, I suppose it could work as an imperial general, but not for my Smuggler (is there going to be majority of Republic players or what?)

This was actually one of the things I hated most about Star Wars Galaxies. Fucking everyone rolled Rebel characters, and the developers provided very little in the way of incentives to join the Empire (or disincentives for the Rebels).

I remember joining an Imperial guild purely because I felt that the Empire was the underdog on our server. Every world was overwhelmed by Rebels, and the Imperials had to stick together with each other just to survive. It was like a perverted alternate universe where it was the Rebels who were the oppressive, violent mob and the Imperials were the ragtag heroes fighting for their right to live in peace. I remember the day I (and most of my guild) quit: we were desperately defending our HQ against a zergrush of rebels so big that they nearly crashed the server and forced our small defense squad to drop our connections. When we logged back on and found our HQ in ruins and our stormtroopers being tea-bagged by the rebels, we were all like "fuck this" and quit.

But you see, it's cool because in ToR, the Republic is supposed to have greater numbers than the Empire. Though I do hope that devs give people incentives to join the Empire, because while "be evil" be a pretty nice draw, SWG and pretty much every other MMORPG show that people can join the "good guys" faction and still find plenty of ways to be tremendous pricks. Having relatively balanced factions would be a plus.

I think bounty hunters and force-choke are some pretty good incentives.

First 3 Letters of Birthplace (city or town)

Hmm, I'd either have Jajo She from the OP or Sheja Hapai from Cherrn's.

Yeah, not really feeling either one.

Ya know, I'm a bit worried that Bioware may have been a little early with the hype for this. By the time the announce a release date people might have forgotten about the sweet E3 trailer, and the whole 'first story driven MMO' thing might be have lost a little of it's wow factor.

I can't help but think about what sorts of classes might be revealed next. The only obvious choices seem to be Imperial Agent and some kind of Jedi. If you discard my theory about two force users per faction, that leaves two classes free.

In Star wars d20, the classes were Fringer, Noble, Scoundrel, Soldier, Force Adept, Jedi Guardian, Jedi Consular, and Tech Specialist. Those were reduced to Jedi, Noble, Scoundrel, Scout and Soldier in the Saga Edition.

I suppose tech specialist would make some sense as a pet class, but the fact that there are droids available as companions would seem to make that unlikely. The scout is another option, though I am not sure what mechanics would distinguish him from the other blaster wielding ranged classes.

If you look at archetypes I guess the announced and expected classes do have a sort of symmetry. Bounty hunters and Troopers are front line soldiers, Imperial Agents and Smugglers are sneaky support and Sith Warrior and Jedi are melee fighters. That would make putting in Force adepts and Sith lords as caster/healer archetypes a logical choice if they were going for the now old "Tank, healer and DPS" trinity. Somehow I doubt they are, though. It seems to me that while a class might lean towards one of those roles, they won't be as key to group play as they are in most MMO's. I for one would be thrilled to see raid level content that does not revolve around tank and spank.

Hey look, something almost like news!

    http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=74409
A few folks earlier this morning (around 11:30 AM Central on September 28th, 2009) went to the SW:TOR home page to see a surprising new feature. These select people got to see, for a split second, a link to TEST Star Wars: The Old Republic.
So, closed beta signups possibly coming soon?

Same thing they do in the tabletop game? Grant group buffs and enemy debuffs?

First of all, never bring up the table top game. Nerd.

Second of all, how exactly is that going to help in solo play? We haven't even seen a hint of group play, so how is a class that casts buffs and debuffs going to kill anyone?
