With every new piece of info, I'm finding its harder to keep "cautiously" optimistic, instead of "holy shit this'll be the greatest thing ever" optimistic.

I must be more tired than I thought because I completely missed that there's a second page.
As long as the combat has sufficient feedback for when you take an action then I'll be ok with it. It was the big killer for me with WAR, combat animations and timing were all messed up and it just felt like you were pushing buttons while watching a fight, rather than controlling the character.
That and the Lore! High Elves and Dwarves are Friends? The book of grudges does not contain the War of the Beard?
Why Ratataki? But then I am going to play a generic human Bounty hunter

War stuff
The War of the Beard still happend. The elves and the dwarves are not freinds. Basically, Karl Franz told them both to shut the fuck up and honor their treaties in the face of universal annihilation. And because Karl Franz is about a tad less respected then Sigmar himself, they agreed.
If you really want to have a lore related migrane about WaR, lets talk about how the Dark Elves magically push the Elves shit in all the way back to their homeland. No real reason, The twins are still there. They just magically bypass every defense that has repelled every invasion from the beginning of civilization until now. YEAH.

Man I'm watching this fucking thing, Star Wars: Legacy Revealed, that has a bunch of people talking about how Star Wars is like Hamlet or the Bible or Odysseus or political- WHO CARES it's just a fucking sci-fi movie stop over-analyzing.
Edit - hahaha, this lady was speaking of Han Solo's "I know" line like it was a stroke of genius writing. Does she even know it was a fucking joke that happened while filming?
I'm not exactly keen on the first announced playable race, but Advanced Classes has me all excited. I love that shit. Any game that features multi-path evolving classes is instantly better in my eyes. I'm a sucker for the concept. Even better when the paths are themed and split into additional paths later in the game. Seiken Densetsu 3 is one of my favorite SNES RPGs thanks in large part to its "light and dark" evolving class system.
The first thing I think of when I hear "You start as one class and then have to choose later" is how lame it was in Everquest 2 when you had to play a lame archetype for the first 10 levels, then a slightly less lame archetype for 10 more levels, then you finally got to be a Paladin. I have more faith in Bioware to make the initial classes less lame, but I can already imagine a year after release the patch notes will read "You can now choose your final specialized class at character creation."
Actually F being cynical towards a Bioware game. I'm sure all classes will be amazing even before specialization.

I don't mind the "start as one of the basic classes then progress to more advanced classes" stuff. As long as there's strong identity in the base 8 choices to begin with and strong identity in the 2 choices each of those classes have for advancing. I don't expect a terrible amount from the "3 talent tree" thing. But we'll see.
If anything, I'm at least happy that character classes and character customization now has some deeper roots set in place. I wasn't thrilled with the 8 classes idea by itself.
It then goes on to talking about the choice in career path that every character gets at a point in the game, giving you two choices. It compares it to that approaching level ten in Aion.
A Smuggler, for example, is a Han Solo-type class who makes use of stealth and cover to tackle enemies, but at some point you'll get the choice of pursuing the stealthy line by becoming a Scoundrel, or take a more direct approach to combat with the dual-wielding, sniping Gunslinger. Intriguingly, the Gunslinger also comes with the 'Smooth Talker' trait, which gives you additional dialogue options.
Similarly the article notes that the new classes will get two paths. For the Jedi Consular "one (route) is more support healing and the other is more of a controlling stun path where he's doing damage and taking people out of the battle with telekinetics". And for the Inquisitor it is "a fast Darth Maul path that uses the staff lightsabre and does lots of damage, and the other is a more controlling, lightning, Palpatine-type character". Which, to be honest, confuses me as it sounds like the Inquisitor can play pretty much exactly like the Warrior. I guess, and the article notes something like this (as I'll get to in a bit), that the difference is that the Warrior wears heavy armor and the Inquisitor is more of a glass canon.
It's kind of funny that the big headline on the Total PC Gaming website is that "Star Wars: The Old Republic advanced classes revealed" -- when it was they themselves that 'revealed' the Aion-esque class-splitting back in November.

Now I can't help but wonder what the advanced classes will be for other base classes. Especially in regard to the Republic Trooper. An obvious choice is like a commando. But what would the other be? Some sort of leader position? NPC "pets" like a squad you command?
Edit - Bounty Hunter will have assassin and like a super-bounty-hunter type thing.

Total PC Gaming already revealed the advance classes for three of the base classes back in November:
Smugger:

How did all that shit fly under our collective radar?
Edit - How could they be jamming us if they don't know...
The thing that kills a talented class structure is when a class only really has one option because of balancing issues. You can go back and look at WoW when they believed that Druids should only be healing and their other trees were ignored, in that game, I'm pretty sure each class had a tree that the devs didn't give a shit about.
Balancing becomes harder the more options you let people have and your going to really have 5 paths for each base class. Sounds like each clas gets two unique talent trees and a common one. If talents are like WoW and make abilities a lot better and introduce new abilities you're going to get "correct builds" and "wrong builds."
I hope this doesn't happen but so many mmo development teams fall prey to this. The prime example is WAR. If this is more like KotOR and classes don't get too many abilities and specializationS only offer a few unique skills than it will be easier to balance.
I really wish they would keep force powers open with only a few restricted to class, making force needed for each dependent of alignment.
The writing for star wars was really bad, I mean the phantom menace was bad, but I was like 7 when it came out, so it's not like I even cared about any of it, but i remember watching the second one, with anakin blabbing about how much he loved padme and the whole time I was just thinking, fuck , I could have written something better than this shit. I still haven't seen revenge of the sith. it was on tv a couple of weeks ago, and I just turned it off after about twenty minutes. I didn't see the old star wars movies until last year, and darth vader was ruined for me, cause i kept of thinking of him as stupid punk emo kid anakin from the first movies.
Basically, for the game, I'm just going with what people have already been saying. It's fucking BIOWARE, the story will kick ass, the gameplay will be fun, and at least once an hour you will stop everything your doing just so you can jump up in the air and high five whoever is sitting next to you cause you did something really cool. Get real here, Knights of the old republic, by itself, had a better story than the first three star wars films put together.

That... is the sadest thing I have ever heard...
My only advice, is don't think of the guy who played Anakin in the new trilogy, try to think of the guy who voiced Vader for the original Trilogy, James Earl Jones.

That too.
I intend to show my kids the original trilogy, as I saw it, when they're kids. Then when they're in highschool I'll show them the new shitty trilogy. Just so that I can ensure they're in the same state of mind as I was when I saw it.
I can't believe I've thought through how I'd handle Star Wars with potential children.

This. I want to do this. Though I'd like a "The Rifleman" option.
This is particularly good news for me since I know now that we won't have to be locked into using a double edged lightsaber/dual wielding lightsabers at the highest level of each Force user class.
Personally, all of the more ridiculous lightsaber stuff never made any sense to me. There's no real practical reason why anything more than one blade would be better. Same goes for real life swords too.
Definitely going to rock the vader(single lightsaber and armor)/palpatine (force lightning and monologueing) specs respectively for warrior/inquisitor.
- A Rogue style DPS/debuffer class (like Zam Wessel)
- A pure damage class (Mandalorian Supercommando?)
- Some sort of long range/sniper class. I'm thinking like a forward observer able to call in orbital strikes and whatnot.
- An off class, that goes against the "debuff/damage" that the Sith Empire seems to have. Maybe something like Sith Officer that gives buffs while doing damage (leading from the front as it were)?
Needless to say, this looks pretty sweet.

Imperial Agents already got the orbital bombardment/sniper aspect covered.
One screenshot had an Imperial Agent with one of those floating ball droids behind him with green rays coming out of it. Darth Hater hypothesized that it might be some kind of healing device.
Perhaps one of the Imperial Agent's classes will focus on support/healing, and the other on damage?
You never know, maybe part of the talents or class specs for Jedi's are different forms of saber combat. Or maybe you can just consider the unique moves and talents the saber forms without defining names.
I would like to be able to switch from single target saber style to multiple blaster deflection mod.
The way they're described, they're all pretty much represented in a more simplified format in all basic lightsaber combat in the movies, games, or what have you--all jedi block blaster shots, jump around really fast, and are capable of fighting lightsaber to lightsaber, etc.
If they were to actually divide weapon specialization into seven trees it would be a bit of a cluster fuck.

They've mentioned that every class will have some form of self-healing. I'm guessing that's theirs.

That's a functionality I can appreciate. Being allowing every character to be able to get out of a tight jam with a classic heal is fine by me. Whenever a developer tries to complicate it with like "WELL THIS CLASS CAN FREEZE PEOPLE IN PLACE FOR A SEC, AND THIS CLASS CAN VANISH" it gets goofy because then PvP balance is affected.

They revealed that back in the massive December media push, with the PC Gamer (UK) article, IIRC.
