Alright, so my brother got a nice LCD monitor for Christmas as an upgrade from his CRT. One of our cats liked to sit on his CRT occasionally, and tried to replicate this feat 5 minutes ago with the new monitor, with the expected result. Now there are a bunch of lines on the screen from where it impacted on the edge of the stand it was sitting on when it fell over. We got the monitor from Circuit City about a week ago and didn't get any protection plan, so I don't think we can get it returned/fixed. The lines are really annoying, but there aren't any "holes" so it is still very usable. Will the condition of the monitor worsen overtime (excluding feline related catalysts), and if so is there anything he can do to slow down or prevent the deterioration?
edit: Oh yeah, the monitor was an Acer that cost around $250 (at the time of the sale). Are there any ways to get it repaired, or would it cost almost as much to buy an entirely new one?
Go to Circuit City, claim it was like that when you plugged it in.
They should let you exchange it.
I've done that, and it should work
Ditto, unless its got kitty hairs inside the monitor itself along with oodles of claw marks- you should be fine.
If Circuit City won't take it you should look at the manufactures warranty. I think Acer has a 3 year parts/labor warranty, but I'm not sure what exactly it covers.

Should this work with games too?
I was just playing Guitar Hero 2 with some friends and my PS2 got knocked down. Every game but GHII works now and there are some scratches on it. I still have the receipt.
It depends on the store. A lot of places won't let you return opened games but you can ask about exchanging it straight up for another copy of GHII. If not you can try one of those CD scratch remover methods. I hear toothpaste works.

Just take the game back and say "this wouldn't boot" they'll give you store credit. Even if they notice the scratches just deny everything.

Eh, just pay two dollars and take it to your nearest gamecrazy. I'm pretty sure that's their resurfacing charge, and they usually leave games like new.
Since I used to work at Circuit City, this infact will work. Say it was an Xmas gift, and that when you plugged it in it started doing this. Don't mention the cat knocking it off, or anything like that. And if they have one in stock they will replace it. As long as it's been less than 14 days you shouldn't have a big problem, if its been longer they might try to give you a hard time but you should be able to get them to budge.
Yeah just say it was like that when you plugged it in.
and
if you have a little brother with you, say it was for his PC and bring him with you. When they question for a reciept, have him say "SANTA DOESN'T GIVE RECIPETS"

works great.
lol, that's horrible! Well, it turns out my Dad knows one of the upper managers there so he explained the situation and the manager let him exchange it. hooray! thanks anyway guys.

If they say no, make a scene.
Yeah it might be embarrassing, but it'll net you a new monitor, and at worst, people you don't know or care about MIGHT think you were an asshole (Depending on how outrageous you need to get).

I got up to the 3rd tier and I couldn't bear without it. GH1 just seems so..bland.
