I recently got a job down in the Virgina/Maryland area of the Delmarva peninsula and as such I need to move down there for the foreseeable future to work.
They only problem is that I do not know much about the area and that my job is actually in Virgina, but there seems to be very little in the Virgina side of the peninsula, so I think it might be best to live in Maryland. This means I am looking at commute of at least 20 minutes to over an hour based upon the largest towns in the area and what Google maps indicates about estimated time of travel. Not really a problem for me because I just want to have a solid place to call home and I will put up with the commute.
I am hoping there are some fourmers who live, or once lived, in that area that could point out places to look for decent housing for a single fellow. General tips and advice to move somewhere new and adjust would be grand as well. I am about three hours away and will be making at least one trip with my parents to visit potential towns/cities and meet with real estate folks. However, I would like to have some other opinions besides what I get hocked by the real estate crowd.
TL/DR: I have to move, what should I look out for and are there any decent places in the Maryland portion of the Delmarva Peninsula for a single guy to live.

Delmarva isn't super close to anywhere that's going to appeal to the single guy's sensibilities. You wont be terribly far from a lot of cool places, though (Annapolis, D.C., Baltimore, Richmond).
Don't know much about the housing situation in Delmarva itself, though.
Also, it's a pretty huge landmass... are you thinking like Salisbury or Cambridge, or where?
I'm in college in NC now, but I grew up on Delmarva, and you may not like what I have to say. Keep in mind almost any place can seem boring if you grew up there, but for a (I presume) young, single guy the area doesn't have much to offer.
If your job is in Virginia, then I would not recommend Cambridge. Salisbury may work for you, and so may Berlin. I have the sneaking suspicion that you're going to be working on Wallops island in VA, as I can't think of ANYTHING else that would cause someone to move to the Eastern shore of Virginia. This means you can expect about an hour commute each way from Salisbury or Berlin. Pocomoke city or Princess Anne would be closer. (you do not want to live in Princess Anne, the only thing there is UMES and the crime rate seems to be slightly terrifying.) Pocomoke may work, it isn't large. as far as I know there isn't a lot to do there either, but I'm from a half hour north so take that with a grain of salt.
Salisbury Advantages: Has bars and sports bars with things going on. Lots of chains you're probably already familiar with and plenty of grocery stores and shops. Centrally located on the peninsula, less than an hour from most points of interest: Beaches, Shops/eats/etc in Ocean City and Rehoboth DE (fair warning rehoboth has a LARGE gay scene.) A few local shops and a couple of great coffee places. Routes 13 and 50 meet here, so you may very well be finding yourself here often anyway. Within easy day trip range of "Western Shore" Baltimore, Annapolis, DC. Disadvantages: Long commute, presence of SU students can really drive up rental prices. I hear complaints from SU students that the town can feel a little soulless and that it lacks in local businesses.
Berlin: Has a "quaint" downtown, considerably more local flavor than Salisbury. Closer to beaches, and Ocean City(tourist trap, but some "clubbing" opportunities.) unfortunately this probably puts land and rent prices up there with Salisbury. I'm not really familiar with the nightlife here, although there are some well advertised local cultural events.
Pocomoke "City": I'm not as familiar with Pocomoke. I've also gotten the impression there isn't as much to do, although there are still some bars and restaurants. I've also seen some (slightly run down looking) shopping centers as I've passed through. You're right next to Pocomoke state forest (purported to be haunted) if that interests you.
If you're used to living in a proper city, prepare for culture shock, oh and happy sticker shock when it comes to housing prices.
I'm going to go ahead and wrap up. If you have more specific questions, I have more specific answers, feel free to pm me or post them here.
