It's United States only, but it seems that now you just have to prove you bought the game to get a copy of RFG, instead of praying that you got one of THQ's Golden Tickets.
What a bummer, oh well I'll probably pick it up when the price is falling a bit, not like I'm a rush with ME2 and Bioshock2 entertaining Me for now.
Fairly far in, the last two pieces require the grapple and the other is at a place close to the end game.

A quick glance at gamefaqs shows that the last piece is near the tree.
Anyway, I've noticed something here on my second playthru. I've just started my trip through the ashlands, and I've already got 6 Wraith Core Slots. On my first playthru, somehow I only had 2 at this point. When I beat the game the first time, I only had 4 total.
Hell, While doing the second dungeon, at one point I actually had more wraith cores than I did Life stones.
I'm also trying to save up my "money" more now. No real reason, other than I like spending in large chunks, rather than small trips to the shop buying 1 or 2 items here and there. After the 2nd dungeon I actually had 21000 souls to spend. I'm sure part of it is just being my second playthru, so I know where to look for chests, and I also know how to get more souls out of the "events" that take place before the first and second dungeons.

I agree; on my 2nd playthrough, I had many more souls because, well... on my first playthrough, I bought all 4 'hold L trigger' abilities; and other than the one you start with, they all pretty much suck, and you can accomplish everything in the game just fine without any of them.
So yea, Souls saved to be better spent on other stuff.
I finished the first dungeon last night. Man, this is the best Zelda game Nintendo never made. The layering on some of the puzzles was phenominal; nothing challenging so far, but the level design and complexity was truly outstanding.
Here's to hoping the rest of the game holds up to this quality.
And eff that 160 kills on the angelic beast achievement. I just wasted an hour I can't get back =(
I had a save right at the beginning of that, and came back on four different occasions, while progressing through the rest of the game normally. But goddamnit, I was determined to get 1000/1000.
So...this may have been answered but a search didn't bring up much....
What is the best/worst use of souls? I know this game isn't all about specing out War a specific way, but I am afraid that I'm going to waste all my currency on stuff that's altogether not very useful. Is anything super useful, super useless, or is it just a matter of play style?

Here's a recommendation.
- Don't bother with air and lock-on moves. Taking the fight to the air rarely is a good idea, and the lock-on moves force you to stand still, which NEVER is a good idea. Invest in dash attacks and those you charge from a block.
- Never, EVER buy anything for the gauntlet, except maybe for the block charge, which utterly destroys small enemies in groups (especially spiders). Instead, buy the charge for the scythe, the Chaoseater's charge, and that little spinning move in the air, which I found to be rather effective. Otherwise, don't bother with any moves at all. Upgrade those charges, though!
- Don't buy empty vessels or most refills- at most, you should get some life essence if you're having trouble with a particular fight.
- Don't bother with wrath abilities. Instead, focus on only a single one. Maxing out Stoneskin or the one you start with can make you a monster. Seriously, the first wrath ability one-shots most enemies in the endgame!
- Don't use any Crossblade upgrades. Seriously, ranged combat sucks. MAN UP.
- I'd stay away from those wrath shards and containers, too. You don't need all that much wrath.
If you just keep your eyes open for good, free weapon enhancements and use Chaos form a lot, you won't ever need anything else. :P

Of course, if he's that stingy with the souls, he'll have plenty left over too.

Lock on moves are a matter of preference but Air moves, particularly for the chaoseater are great. There is a combo that lets you knock an enemy into the air and you can follow it with a spinning air attack that will kill any non-large demon, if it is upgraded. It will hit any nearby enemies too. If you use it on large demons, for the most part it will allow you to totally avoid their attacks (except for the big guys like the ones on the bridge in the broken stair).
Again, preference. Upgraded gauntlet attacks can let you kill a horde of demons in a single charged attack. There's one in particular that pounds the ground allowing you to knock up everything in the air then it throws them out after it is done; this will almost always result in most enemies going over a ledge and instantly dying. The Gauntlet is an excellent crowd weapon. Better than the Scythe IMO.
- Don't buy empty vessels or most refills- at most, you should get some life essence if you're having trouble with a particular fight.
There's actually only one single empty vessel you can buy. Just saying.
- Don't bother with wrath abilities. Instead, focus on only a single one. Maxing out Stoneskin or the one you start with can make you a monster. Seriously, the first wrath ability one-shots most enemies in the endgame!
You don't need to upgrade the wrath abilities for them to be useful, no; but different ones are better for different places. Except Immolation; I found no use for that at all. Stoneskin is great for big baddies. The swords one is good for groups of small demons. The poison one is amazing for the banshees and armored demons that you have to knock off their armor to kill. In fact the latter is good for pretty much everything and I found to be considerably more versatile than any of the other abilities. If you've got the Abyssal armor (I realize this won't happen till the end of a first playthrough), Stoneskin is worthless.
- Don't use any Crossblade upgrades. Seriously, ranged combat sucks. MAN UP.
- I'd stay away from those wrath shards and containers, too. You don't need all that much wrath.
Yet again, preference. I found myself using Wrath constantly. There are so many situations that are painful without using spells. Particularly the Black Throne is made considerably easier with the poison spell, and it is two Wrath a shot. Granted this doesn't necessitate buying the Wrath upgrades from Vulgrim; but there are only two: one full and one quarter. 10k and 2.5k respectively. Which is a lot.
If you just keep your eyes open for good, free weapon enhancements and use Chaos form a lot, you won't ever need anything else. :P
Honestly, while your recommendations will get someone through the game without spending a lot of souls on upgrades; it will also get them through the game pretty much only mashing attack constantly and doing nothing else.
It is my opinion that it's more fun in the end to get more attacks and spice up combat than it is to be frugal and try to save money. You can get enough souls in the course of simply playing the game, without any need for farming, to learn every skill, buy level 1 of every spell, and get every wrath/upgrade you can buy, by the end of the game. I honestly can't see any reason to skimp on as much as you're recommending here. You'd finish the game with like 30k souls unspent for no good reason.
As you go through the game from collecting chests and just killing required enemies you'll get enough to get pretty much everything. Just prioritize things you know you'll use earlier and buy the extras later.

I wish I could disagree more. I only played the game on Apocalyptic difficulty, and investing heavily in that Gauntlet made the whole process so much easier. It doesn't do a ton of damage, but it's excellent crowd control. I can smash it into the ground and send everyone into the air, then charge up and do it again before they land. Basically, you can combo most enemies into stunlock, and it's a real life-saver.
Maybe on easier difficulties, the Scythe is better because there's no need for crowd control (damage is your crowd control), but on Apocalyptic, the Gauntlet really shines.
Don't use any Crossblade upgrades. Seriously, ranged combat sucks. MAN UP.
I found the ricochet upgrades for the crossblade incredibly useful for stunlocking groups of enemies while I focus on bigger threats. No need to even aim. Just tap the throw button and the bouncing blade does its thing.

I thought the gauntlet and scythe were absolutely worthless on apocalyptic and just used the sword and a near fully upgraded wrath spikes ability to tear everything apart.

I finally finished this game yesterday, and by finished I mean 1000/1000 GP. :rotate:
But oh dear did it challenge my patience. :? Luckily I found all the armor pieces and Life shards during my run. But the Wrath Shards and the last Soldier Artifact? All those guides and walkthroughs are worthless when you can't figure out which ones you already got! Most of the guides didn't even take the time to add a map or any visual clue to what chest they were referring to.
I spend 20 minutes traveling to the most distant part of The Hollows, just to find a stupid chest with some rotten green souls :x
It took me way over 2 hours to find the missing pieces, and I only needed two shards and one artifact. But man I was overjoyed when I finally found them. That was until I realized that I needed over 7000 souls to buy the last Wrath from Vulgrim
So I went to Iron Canopy to grind spiders.....and I spend way more time grinding those suckers than I would like to admit:? I also needed to get both the Scythe and the Gauntlet from the bottom of level 2 to level 4, so I think I might have made the same grind-run about 40 times before I had what I needed.
Talk about turning your mind off for a couple of hours:oops:
I also ended up killing crows with parking meters to get the "Kill 150 dudes by throwing stuff at them"-achievement, when I discovered that cars and oildrums didn't respawn. :P

Is the Iron Canopy the best place to level up the weapons? Because I felt like I was barely getting anything from the spiders when fighting them on my journey through that place.
I just finished The Black Throne and am working on collecting as much as I can. Apparently there's a chest right by the endgame fetch quest item in the Drowned Pass, but I don't see it anywhere. Can anyone here clue me in on how to get it?
I'm also trying to figure out how to get to a chest in the passage with the big spinning fan thing, as well as an artifact.
I really hope none of the chests I see in The Hollows contain any useful items, because I went back there a few days ago and couldn't figure out how to get to an area in the southwest.

The spiders themselves aren't that great for grinding, but the trick is to do a Save/load to make them respawn. If you start in the room at the beginning of the dungeon (Actually it is the end, but it is the beginning when you revisit the dungeon) where you encounter the first 15-20 spiders and work yourself into the dungeon, you should be able to kill around 50 spiders before you get outside. When you get outside to the area with the broken fire escape you just make a save and load, and that should spawn you right back at the room with the first spiders which have respawned. You can repeat this trick until you get bored and your eyes fall out, but it works
If you use the weapon upgrades that give your weapons more XP, then this is the optimal way to get them to max level, since you don't have to run around looking for new enemies all the time.

That is a glitch because you are only able to get that chest the first time you enter Drowned Pass. You have to collect it before you beat all the challenges in the area.
But it is just a bunch of blue souls, so it is not that important to remember.

You need to have Shadow Flight and the Abyssal Chain to get it. You can see that there is some sort of tunnel on the map, and is you look down when you stand on one of the blades you should see it. You must stand on one of the blades and then jump into the tunnel. There is a orange hook-thingy in there, but you can't see it when you stand on the blades, so it's a bit tricky to figure out. But you just have to jump and glide into the tunnel until you can use The Abyssal Chain.
I think I'm missing something - earlier in the thread, people mentioned respawning at less than full health if they die and reload a checkpoint. So far, the times I've died and selected to restart at the last waypoint, I always had full health.
One probably stupid question - do "passive" bonuses on enchantments imply they're always active? I'd assume so, but it's hard to tell and I thought it might also mean it's active but only when slotted in any weapon, not necessarily the one you're using.
Actually, I think it's always active, since the enhancement that reveals map items always shows where everything is on the map regardless of whether it's equipped.
Though I haven't gone out of my way to thoroughly test such a claim.

Thanks, now I know not to bother with that chest in Drowned Pass. I managed to get the stuff in the spoiler this morning.
I am now missing a single artifact, 1 piece of abyssal armor, 3 lifestone shards, and 1 wrath shard.

For anyone having problems finding items in the game. There is one legendary enhancement that you can get about 3/4ths into the game that grants you every map and every treasure location.

I wish more games with collectibles had something similar. It's fun seeing something on the map and figuring out how to get it.

Ohh where is that?
The first tower of the Black Throne. You'll cross a circular room with a stone creating floor. The floor naturally moves North South. While crossing the floor, if you look to your left, you'll see a portal wall. Take the portal and then walk across the new East/West stone creation floor to a treasure chest. You have to equip it to a weapon, but that's hardly a price to pay.
So... Just finished this game 30 seconds ago. I've never in my life had an ending that made me want to play the sequel immediately. But gosh darnit, now I have! Fan-friggin-tastic!
Ninja Edit - I was getting bored of the gameplay (running by enemies while doing the final collection quest) but the ending story was AWESOME!

You don't have to equip it to a weapon to have the effect (either that, or once you've equipped it, you need not keep it equipped for the effect).
I thought the way it worked, since the item is effectively a map and a hoardseeker. Because it reveals all maps, if you unequip it, those maps stayed revealed. The treasure chest locations will disappear, however.

Passive on augments means "in effect as soon as you get this, even if it is not equiped," not "in effect as long as you have it on a weapon, even if your not using it."
I made the same mistake myself, only figuring it out when a swaped out the hoardseeker upgrade and still had all the treasures on the map.

One probably stupid question - do "passive" bonuses on enchantments imply they're always active? I'd assume so, but it's hard to tell and I thought it might also mean it's active but only when slotted in any weapon, not necessarily the one you're using.

I wish more games with collectibles had something similar. It's fun seeing something on the map and figuring out how to get it.
It's a page ago, but speaking of that...
Anyone gotten thier's yet? I did it back on the 13th, and since THQ doesn't seem to let you track the shipment... I'm kinda worried...

Ninja Edit - I was getting bored of the gameplay (running by enemies while doing the final collection quest) but the ending story was AWESOME!
