Is it time for SSX 6? Somebody better think so! Show your SSX love!
I was a huge fan of SSX 3 and SSX On Tour. I never played SSX, I played SSX Tricky (but didn't own it).
Lately there are just a lack of snowboarding games that can compete with last gen:
- Amped 3 is probably the closest, but it's not as wild or fast as SSX series got
- Shaun White's Snowboarding was a realistic take on snowboarding and wasn't well received
- Stoked was also realistic (like skate) and did okay, but not many people played it
It's a shame only SSX3 is Backwards Compatable on the 360.
I've been wondering that for a while, actually. I always enjoyed the over-the-top arcade gameplay, and on SSX3 (I think) I loved how you could start at the top of the mountain and go through all the courses all the way to the bottom of the mountain. I need more pick up and play for 20 minutes style games; I'm losing time to invest in the more in-depth games I usually enjoy...
I fall on the SSX3 side of "3 vs. Tricky" debate, since I liked the Euro-cool vibe and soundtrack more, but both games were awesome. On Tour was a huge disappointment coming after those two, and SSX Blur, while intriguing with the Nunchuk carving, focused too much on wacky symbol-drawing and completely sucked the soul out of the franchise and characters.
A true full-on SSX sequel on any system would be welcomed with open arms in the Lunker household. Fans of SSX should definitely check out Pure on PS3 and 360: It doesn't quite hit the same highs, but it grabs a lot of the same over-the-top spirit (and even has Übertricks!).
I have never ever played these games but there marketing must be really effective cause when ever I see "SSX" I immediately start singing "Tricky tricky tricky!!!"
Yes, it's not SSX, but man, it fills the gap until they wake up and make another one.:^:[/QUOTE]
I also made a generally neglected love thread last year to go along with the generally neglected Pure. :P
Sadly, I thought I had heard in a rumors post that EA has shuttered its EA Big division, so that's probably why it's taken ages, but mediocre sales of On Tour and Blur is probably what's kept it from returning the most.

I miss the EA Sports BIG games. I was a big fan of SSX as well as NBA Street. I hope the rumors of their death are greatly exaggerated, but they haven't released a game since early 2008, so it's not looking good.

Probably the finest use of a licensed song to date.

I liked On Tour. There were negligible differences between the Ski's and the Board's, but I had fun. It had a lot of style, the style Amped 3 seemed to rip from.
I was going to drop into this thread and show PURE some love as well, but you fine folks beat me to it.
I lost so many hours of my life to SSX3. The hidden routes, mixed with the fantastic physics for various snow surfaces, made the game an absolute joy to play.
Hell, nothing was better than slightly drifting through a turn made of pure ice.
Tricky was my first PS2 game, and I played the hell out of it. SSX3 was even better and is still one of my favorite games. On Tour was a letdown after SSX3.
One thing I didn't like was once I played SSX3, I couldn't play Tricky anymore. I think SSX3 auto-rotated you upright more than it did in Tricky, because I always would up upside down in Tricky after playing 3 for a while.
Moby was by far the most badass character in the series.
I was playing On Tour on my PSP today and was JUST thinking of making this thread.
Also SSX3 is the best. Tricky was indeed awesome, but in 3 you could ride down the entire mountain, took like 30 minutes.
Also the music queues were badass, sailing off a huge jump and the music would quieten to a soft part of the song allowing you to hear the wind rushing past, then it would slam back in on a heavy riff or something on the landing.

I LOVED when that happened.
I did the peak run a few times with the music turned completely off just so that I can hear the perfect noise it made when turning on the slick ice.
I recall SSX Tricky and SSX3, both awesome games. On Tour I didn't like too much, but if they bring out SSX5 in the style of Tricky and SSX3 it should be awesome!
I liked On Tour, but I have to agree that the pinnacle of the series was SSX3. At the time the major selling point for me was that there were bindings on the snowboards.

Fix this now.

I love the crap out of 3, but Tricky was really great too. Both games are different enough that they can co exist.
Why they haven't made another one is beyond me. This is EA after all.
Yes, it's not SSX, but man, it fills the gap until they wake up and make another one.:^:
As much as I hate to admit it, playing SSX is what got me interested in snowboarding.

Though part of me is glad that they just haven't been pumping them out left and right, like a lot of other series do.

I watched that intro every single time I booted the game.
Get Pure!
Yeah I think I might get Pure as well.
Just the atmosphere in the SSX games were amazing, I love the night courses.
Awww yeah! I had forgotten how cool that intro was. That game has so much style.

And then when I got 3 I spent hours getting almost all the items/clothes for every character.
Then I ignored On Tour since I heard it was shit.
They just lacked the personality and energy that made me all whenever I booted up Tricky.

I feel exactly the same way. My friends and I played the hell out of the original and tricky and I just could never really get into it after that.

I forgot it existed.
When I saw this thread, I was like..."Where was SSX 4?"
Anyways, Tricky was a goddamn amazing game.
Pure is nothing like SSX though, even in feel. I bought it for $7 at Best Buy a few weeks back and have barely touched it. It does nothing for me.
Was it on sale or something? Can I somehow get that price?
$7 for something that may possible be like SSX sounds like a good deal to me.
Best Buy had a few games on mad clearance. Pure, Hellboy, and...something else.

Yes, SSX5 is far past due.

Symon was my favorite.
Psymon
get it?
because he's psycho
Either that or he has psychic snowboard powers!
It could happen

All of them had to have psychic snowboard powers what with the board flipping and throwing they could do.
Let's hope EA brings back "EA SPORTS BIG" or some new subsidiary for the SSX series
That's because you're evil and have no soul
