No, it's the "1v1". Making fun of them is one thing, taking out your e-peen is another.
Nah, not really.
1v1 fagget is an accepted and time-honored DOTA/HoN tradition. More than that, it's an inside joke amongst friends, patronizing the very existence of such challenges. I mean, sure, it'd be fun to obliterate the guy, but the real point was to more or less antagonize because I think I recall being told to piss on myself or something because I didn't congratulate him for beating baddies, heh.
I'm the least cocky person in the world, anyway. I just try to inject a little knowledge here and there in this thread but it's clearly small time just as Leon is, etc.

it is great
I gotta admit, while I've gotten some great advice in this thread, the way in which it is delivered is so condescending. I've put up with some pretty rude stuff in the fighting game communities and SRK but something about Dota/Hon makes people come off as arrogant.
It might be the nature of the game, but I find it funny that a game with so many heroes and items can be so restrictive.
For a game with such a high learning curve, veterans act as though every nuance of the game should be common knowledge. I'm not talking about stuff laid out help text like Abyssal skull on ranged characters.
Obviously you want to optimize your win potential but at some point I might as well be a pre-scripted bot with all the restrictions. This is why high level play bores me. It's all the same shit.

More like it's the same heroes, same lanes, same items, same strategy. The announcer can usually predict the hero picks and lane assignments before the match happens.
Also, I take it back a bit. Team battles are usually pretty entertaining since that is when there might be some unusual stuff going on.

What a stupid, stupid pub game.
War Beast, Pred, Legio (me), Chronos, Madman
vs
Deadwood, Witch Slayer, Pyro, Tort, Dark Lady
(It should be noted this is non-em)
War Beast asked for a pause at the start, gets it. Dark Lady quits during the pause. Madman gets owned in the first minute and quits also, making it 4v4.
Somehow, we barely held out long enough our War Beast to finish getting farmed up and manage to mount the comeback. Didn't help at all that both the Pred and the Chronos kept feeding over and over.
why would you all pick melee? That makes lanes so hard
Pub noobs.
I cried when I saw what we had managed to pick. Said I was going Legio at the start, no one else is talking. Then last 5 secs they all pick melee as I'm clicking. =/
Had I known, I would likely not have picked him.
EDIT: Made early team fights awful also. I'd get in, taunt. Everyone would jump my guy for whatever reason. Deadwood roots us all, Tort pops his AoEs, Pyro pops his AoEs, we get out of root straight into Witch Slayer stun, finish getting raped. Maybe, just maybe we'd kill the initial guy but even that wasn't happening often.
AFAIK Clan PennyArcade is pretty dead, but we have like 20 unique shining snowflakes here posting with us. Who's be up for an inhouse game this Sunday, 10PM EST [edit: or 6PM EST]? !sign up with your name COLOR="Lime"]JollyGreen[/COLOR and preferred time if you're game. If this works out, we can make something regular out of it, because fuck I am sick of pubs.
My vote's for the gamemode to be BD, force auto, no stats, with specs for those that have to sit out. Make it so that 3/5 team members voting for a concede forces a concede. I'm thinking that'll keep rage between team members to a minimum.
I was going to ask people to post availability, but I figure that'd be too much of a clusterfuck to organize. But yeah 10PM is probably too late for most people with normal jobs. I was trying to account for the west coast people too. Does Sunday 6PM EST work better for most people?

So, I just realized today that I have at MOST a 10% pub win rate, and almost all my wins are games where I'm playing with at LEAST 2 friends who are willing to work together.
This irritates me to no end.
Edit: this probably irritates me more, because I've just been on about a 10 game losing streak that's brought my PSR from almost 1700 down to 1570.
Just because you can farm unharassed because the other team is busy ganking your other, more useful teammates does not mean you are a skilled player. It usually means the opposite.
The biggest problem I have with bubs nowadays is just how unpredictable they are. It's not a matter of being good or bad, because either is something I can try to quantify and manage, it's early laning when you don't know if your partner will follow up your harass, or back you up if you need to dive. It's getting into an undecided 1 v 2 and not knowing if your team will show up. It's setting up a gank for their lane and having no idea whether they're going to even be there or if you're better off farming somewhere else. Not knowing which they're going to juke when you try to save them. It's really annoying having no idea what the mentality of the other 4 players are.

EDIT so my post isn't complete trash:
Both communities have casual players and trash players, just like both communities have quantities of hardcore players and elitists so your post isn't saying anything except for: HoN > LoL and I am smart because I pick HoN over LoL.
Play both games for a while and you'll see that both games are worth playing for different reasons.

You just made me giggle and subsequently spill coffee on myself. Good work.
I figure I should probably post in this thread that I've been watching since page 1. I play a fair fucking lot (pretty much every night with friends), account name Coolzaku and I'm happy to give any newbies a whirl around, give them a hand with items and such. Also up for some more srs bsns games as well.
Just for reference, I am pretty fucking good, but because I play with friends who for some godforsaken reason refuse to see the light of non-em games, I have precisely 1 non-em game under my belt since the reset. I used to non-em all the time back in my dota days but yeah, ymmv if I end up non-eming with you lot.
I play on US West servers - I am Australian though, so timing is really fucking difficult.

I would be interested in watching but unfortunately I won't be around this Sunday. Someone should record it.

I too would be very interested in watching. Love to finally be able to put some IG names to forum names and see just how good you lot are
I don't know if its the nature of HoN, but I believe pugging in this game is worse than any other game.
I jump into a game and one teammate rush picks Scout. A second teammate complains about being the best Scout player on earth, but ultimately concedes that argument and picks Night Hound. A third teammate, going for the stealth trifecta, takes Madman. The fourth takes Magmus. The stealthers are screaming at me to take Pestilence, but fuck that, we need a ranged. So I take Demented Shaman. I get called a noob and a faggot, usual stuff. So:
I actually went 7/7/9 in this game, assisting on all 9 of our kills. Teammates were blaming each other - it had nothing to do with your hero choices, of course - and sitting in the base waiting for the 15 minute mark so that we could concede. Emo.

I tend to get tablet more these days. I had a Nymphora get angry yesterday because I would keep hopping her out of her heal range.

not dying?
yeah i guess that would be boring for the viewer
Our team: 1 game played. 4 total noobs.
Their team: 20 games played.
Me: 2-2.
Rest of my team 1-45. Tower diving, sticking around at low health and running into 1v2's.
I've never seen such a stomping. I wasn't really mad since it's not like I was playing well, but it was shocking to see such a lopsided match.

Holy shit is he awesome. 5 second stun into a 5second slow and a decent manadraining AoE plus huge survivability?
YES PLEASE.
