Senator Kirk

Paul Kirk has apparently been chosen to replace Ted Kennedy in the Senate until a special election can be held.

http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5ivEDvT9bYPFIxmY4gvlBgeXDHUmwD9ATQ7580

He used to be head of the DNC and now he runs the Kennedy library. Well, I guess ran the Kennedy library, because now he's a senator. It was a pretty smart move to pick someone connected to the Kennedy family, because maybe he'll have more voice than another temporary senator would.

Also, he's not running for the permanent seat, which is pretty cool of him to do.

Makes as much sense as anyone. Still, it being a purposefully temporary appointment that is guaranteed to be replaced in a couple months it would have been interesting if he appointed someone with extreme bona fides in health care policy or something.

The Huffington Post ran some rampant speculation that Elizabeth Warren could be running for the seat in January. This is probably just HuffPo's irrational exuberance but that would be pretty cool. I think Elizabeth Warren might be one of the objectively best people on the planet.

So what? none of the proposed healthcare legislation does anything to pharma beyond giving it a blowjob

They're all up in arms about insurance (which I agree with) but ignoring the stupidity of our drugs patent system making people pay $Prostitute for pills that should cost $Steak Dinner

Man what the fuck? Is it too much to ask that we get someone who isn't beholden to the medical industry? We may as well count him as a vote against reform. It's almost an insult that he's taking Kennedy's seat.

When he dies, I hope they write "Worst Affirmative Action Hire, EVER" on his grave. His corpse should be trolled.
