Recommend some comedy?

so i'm really into comedy, i love to laugh and stuff.

lately i've been getting into listening to comedy albums, they're pretty great, except when you're sitting on a bench and trying to stop yourself from laughing out loud so people don't think you're crazy.

but yeah i don't know many people who actually have comedy cds, but suggest some if you do.

or even just a good comedian you think is great.

for reference i have albums by/am into

jim gaffigan
mike birbiglia
demetri martin
mitch hedberg
maria bamford
michael ian black
daniel tosh
nick swardson
flight of the conchords [not exactly stand up, but still really funny]
steven wright
dane cook [actually i'm not really into dane cook that much, but i have his cds]
zach galifianakis

so yeah, who makes you laugh? anything along the same style as anyone i listed?

If you kinda like Dane Cook then you'll really like Louis CK because you get to see Cook's jokes as they were originally performed.

All the advice in this thread is great, though Louis CK is a bit overrated.

However, everyone has missed Bill Hicks. Check out, "Relentless."

I like Jeff Dunham too, but YMMV.

Louis Black can be pretty damn funny.

And uh... I may be lynched for this one, but Ron White from the Blue Collar Comedy Tour is hilarious.

Bill Hicks is indeed a legend, much like Carlin, and both are highly recommended. As a warning, I think Hicks isn't exactly the funniest comedian. His style of comedy is dark and presented more as a long, humorous rant.

Also since I haven't seen it mentioned, all of Dave Chapelle's standup routines are amazing.

I had Adam Sandler's "They're All Going to Laugh at You" CD a long long time ago and it was pretty great (at the time). It has a mixture of "skits" and music. I don't there was any stand-up on it though. Good times.

So there is this guy, Del Close, he pretty much trained the people who created modern day comedy. Everyone who trained with him for the most part hold him in the highest regard. He is the most famous man you've never heard of. He was a beatnick, a fire eater, a pioneer in psychedelic light shows, the house metaphysical physician for SNL, a huge figure in the improv scene, a mad scientist of sorts, a comic book author, a junkie, a warlock, and for the most part surrounded by his own legends.
He also put out a comedy album called How To Speak Hip.

He's fan-fucking-tastic until you realize how much of his clever, well-thought out, well-delivered comedy he's just adlibbing. Then it just blows your mind. Also I love his whole historical approach to things. It's rooted in something completely different in "write what you know" comedians. It makes it hard to post clips, though, because often the grand context makes it a lot funnier.
