Okay, my love affair with Freespace has me returning to the sci fi fold. A few questions from a Mass Effect n00b.
1. Am I screwing myself over by getting the PC version? I have a good PC with plenty of muscle, but this stuff with Secure-ROM or whatever has me concerned. What do I need to get this up and running for XP?
2. Is Bioware going to be nice about porting the ENTIRE trilogy for PC? Or are they going to be assholes like Microsoft with Halo i.e., "Bought the first two games did you? WELL FUCK YOU! You're not getting 3, get an Xbox n00b." Needless to say, I have not supported the series since.

1. I've had no problem running the PC version on XP. And I've uninstalled/reinstalled it several times.
2. I really doubt that they won't port ME3, especially since the PC version of ME2 is getting simultaneous or near-simultaneous release with the Xbox 360 version.
Microsoft indicated long beforehand that they were giving PC users the finger with the Halo series. What with Halo 2 coming out for PC at full price at the same time Halo 3 was being released on 360.
Sorry, guys. I was trying to make a point about the wider range of characters in the game, but what people are hearing is that I hate the game. That's a disservice to the rest of my team, so I'm shutting up for awhile.

Really? This is ridiculous. People are pasting your post all over the internet, and apparently don't have enough reading comprehension to even understand you were actually saying. I hope those idiots don't cause you any trouble and work and I hope you don't disappear for too long, mate. We really enjoy having you here.

Seriously, wtf. It's enjoyable to see you industry guys open up occasionally around your own games, eff all the haters. You should just start making wild proclamations about the game ("it's like harvest moon, but also halo.") and see what happens.
BioWare writer Patrick Weekes dropped by the Penny Arcade forums to respond to comments about Mass Effect 2's newly revealed Subject Zero character. Apparently he doesn't like her much, either:
Actually, I was wrong, they left out this bit at the beginning (without any indication that they had done so):
Glad to hear that SuZy is in no way a polarizing figure and that nobody has decided that they aren't getting the game because it might have a topless tatskank throwing a mech around.
I suppose that it might actually require a bit of explaining about what satire means. Or delving into actual context.
Fucking copying and pasting text from another website doesn't make you a citizen journalist. At least this recent place linked the original source...
Suzabelle and my I would probably disagree on any multitude of milisocioecoeconomopolitical matters, but I think that, in the end, our opinions on killing just massive amounts of people will be perfectly compatible.
Seriously on

This is lame. I mean, I understood what Tak was saying.
But If sites like Kotaku have taught me anything, internet "journalists" will twist a comment any way they can just to make a snide remark for their fanboys to gobble up.
Man, I hope they show a boring character soon so our thread can stop being lame.
His name will be Joe and he will stand there being as un-intrusive as possible.
Seriously.
"What's with all this edgy exciting stuff? This game needs more biege."
Though they should expel upon that by given him the most XTREME music of any character(with plenty of facial sideswipes as the camera rotates around him in a white room).
Demeanor:
Agreeable
*Screenwipe to him standing in the room*
Willing to take suggestions
*Screenwipe again*
Makes excellent coffee.
*Screenwipe to him talking to Shepard*
Shepard: "You mind getting me some coffee, Joe."
Joe: *In a gravely voice* "Yes, sir."
*Xtreme shots of him pouring coffee*

Comfortable shoes
I make excellent coffee and love comfortable shoes too. I guess I'm Joe.
Of course, people who don't like comfortable shoes are worse then Hitler. Maybe even Space Hitler.

I hope we get the sergeant character from halo in ME, he was boss
Didn't he say he loathed her because she was so well-written that she came off as a real person?
Isn't that a compliment? If I played a game with Charles Manson as the antagonist and I actively hated the character because they did such a good job making him seem like he was the actual person, standing right in front of me that would be a huge credit to the writers behind the character.
I'm no marketing guy (obviously) but it seems to me that some of this "New Shit"-style backlash could have been avoided by releasing a character video of a more subdued character in between Grunt and SuZy. Out of the three characters official revealed so far 2/3 are "irrationally violent." If they're 2 out of 10 then it really doesn't seem too bad, but right now people are taking these videos as "most of the cast/game is this way, based on trailers."
EDIT: Not that I have a problem with Suzy, still. Not my kind of character, but I'm okay with that. One trailer does not mean that we'll be knee deep in similar characters.
This is why you're not a marketing feeb... Duh... Jarrett Lee mentioned that we'll see enemy videos soon and that we're getting another video (can't recall if it's another party member or the enemy) in about two weeks or so.

Now, now. Accurately interpreting someone's posts isn't what holds the promise of hits to your site.
Well this is bullshit. Taky says many things that calm the ravening masses flipping out over asinine shit here, and one comment gets twisted to a completely unreasonable degree by some wandering "journalist". :?
Also having watched the Subject Zero video man that got an unreasonable amount of controversy. Seems believable enough, it's always been apparent that there's a seedy fucked up side to the Mass Effect universe.
Tak's not going to be in any trouble. He's going in tomorrow and they're going to laugh at the 'press' while Ray and Greg pour some bourbon, then they're going to leave early all the while smoking heavily.

yeah, this is literally why we can't have nice things
thank you to whoever it is who blew the whistle on this scoop. developers relating to their consumers and fans on character issues? god forbid that continue
Well, they just changed the title from the yellow journalism bullshit "Bioware writer 'loathes' Subject Zero" to "Bioware writer gives his take on Subject Zero" and included some extra context which is way less...you know, stupid.
EDIT: I will actually give them credit that they responded to the comments to the article and said "Ok, well how about this instead?"
I doubt anyone blew the whistle on anything, this is a heavily traveled forum and there have been many Biowareans participating in the ME threads for the past couple of years (wow, it's been that long).
When I first read Tak's post I thought to myself "Ruh oh, blog fodder" - but I never seriously thought it would go that far. Of course the blogs picking it up are third or fourth rate, and their desperation for MOAR CLICKS MONETIZE TEH WEBZ obviously outweighs any measure of integrity they may have.

If you kept Wrex alive during ME1, it turns out that Grunt was Wrex the whole time. How and Why doesn't matter :winky:

Characters do not have to be lovable to be good. Don't let the internet take that away from you.

Quick, everyone bronze your third testicle and send it to taky in a show of solidarity.
Yus, sadness.
At least this one quoted the whole post... Too bad they couldn't be bothered to actually analyse it or anything.
I would understand if he stayed out of the DA and ME threads for a while though.

Don't worry, Tak, I'm with ya, man.
Somebody quote me, I have made roughly a metric fuckton of fanboy friendly innuendos, all of which I would be happy to maintain are true.

I love wiki. Go to the page on masturbation, and there's a picture of some wiki user cranking it. No lies.

Wait, that's Sterling Cooper, not BioWare.
Oh well he might be in deep shit.

I hate when websites use that accuse...
