If you mean that I'm not really painting 'depth of field' effects, then this is true, I have a lot of tight edges. Otherwise, I think I have made the eye the focus by using light and contrast. And... using a cool colour against an image full of warm reds is surely a form of contrast too...?
So I'm not sure what you're getting at.
The suggestion to darkening/subduing my backgrounds doesn't make a great deal of sense to me; I'm trying to create less contrast as the buildings recede in to space, as the atmosphere would dictate.
look, your point of interest in contrast is the sun in the background, the horizon, and a speck of cloud above the machine. the eye doesn't really have that much attention drawn to it. now look at this:
the contrast is actually focused where you say you want it to be.
and with color so that you can see that I'm not just making it up:
Perhaps this is a radically different direction than the one you want to go in, but as my eyes see it, moving towards a more composition-oriented distribution of contrast allows the image to be more cinematic and visually coherent. as Bacon oft shows people, it's hard to see this when working with color, he has a good eye for it. I hope I'm not committing hubris to make the same suggestion he does.
Take it or leave it, just figured I'd try to be clearer rather than vague.

I think srsizzy's post makes a lot of sense. Though, i imagine it is much easier to alter the focal point and colours digitally than manually with acrylics. But if you could manage to pull that kind of lighting and blending with acrylics, that would be awesome. Plus i guess it also depends on the type of mood you're trying to convey.
I like it DR, i think its one of the best ive seen you post. Keep rolling!
I see what you mean srsizzy. This piece has been a big challenge, there's a lot of shit going on that I've not really done on this scale before. I'll keep what you've suggested in mind in future.
yeah, I didn't mean to be too critical. I realize that's probably really difficult to deal with when using actual paint, you'd probably have to do a thumbnail version with the basic layout of lighting before tackling the actual painting. I can't imagine painting regularly, so I admire that, and you've definitely made a lot of progress since being here. keep it up.

I think you need to move the left eye slightly to the right.
yeah - actually, really I need to move the whole right half of the head further to the left, but moving the eye and retooling the left ear would be a quicker fix. I didn't set up the construction well enough at the beginning.

I did a quick draw over but then I realized when I try to do draw overs i tend to somehow bring up unholy rage so meep spoilered here
DeseperateRobots, I want to buy that and put it above my bed and never sleep again. (DID I ALREADY SAY THIS? I think I thought it before, but didn't actually say it. It's still true. It would be worth it.)

Weirdly super saturated because I shot under poor light and had to fiddle to make it look 'right'. It's really not that super red.
Also here are some things:
your adjustment sort of made everything click for me on that first one- I actually got a slight feeling of dizziness
