Ok, the idea is the kids are flying a kite with a picture of a bear on it, and the bear starts jumping off the page flying, and the force of that starts dragging the one kid off the ground so the other kid needs to try and prevent him from flying away by grabbing his ankles?

Right now this idea seems to be a little confused on first read. The kite and the transition between kite-art and actual bear is a bit vague, and it looks on first read like a bear just jumping into the air from the ground with a Dragonball Z glow around him- the wrinkles of the cloth end up looking like action lines. A sharper color change between the two, or a more obvious definition of light in the are might make the idea more clear. Also making the kite outline more sharply defined and less wobbly could help it read better.

Also, the kite string being looping around instead of being taut doesn't connect with the kid being pulled off the ground very well, and makes it look like the one kids is just trying to discus toss the other kid at first glance. You could probably fix this just by horizontally flipping the kids, and making the kite-string a straight line.
A lot of people seem to be having the same issue with seeing it as some kind of super saiyan bear... But honestly, the first thing I thought when I saw it was, Oh snap, the bear is climbing out of the kite, followed by the thought, wow he did a really great job differentiating between the kite-bear and the 3d-bear. Which is, I assume, what you would want. So maybe it's just me but I thought it was great. The butterfly thingy clipping off the page though doesnt make much sense, I would just open up the sky a bit and give it room to exist.

EDIT: P.S. I don't think the story is convoluted at all, although the way the piece is set up, I was absorbed by the bear image, and then only later connected it to the boys struggling to stay grounded. I don't think this is a bad thing though, because honestly who wants to get EVERYTHING out of an image in the first glance? (art wise I mean, I understand that for advertising and such images reading quickly is a good thing)

Oh, it's a kite-bear! I thought the bear was just tied to the kite. That's probably because I'm oblivious, though.

Penguins, that is absolutely adorable but the perspective on the dome at the bottom left looks a little strange. Loving the colours, though.

it gave kind of a dark and more serious atmosphere, so that the random dragon looked even more out of place and hilarious

my doodliest doodle yet. Testing out photoshop, how come when you do one continuous brushstroke and go over the pervious stuff from the same stroke, it doesnt darken? Coming from painter this is very confusing.

    EDIT: Also needs ears

I imagine you are just painting with presets, play with blending modes, opacity, and flow and you can get what you are looking for.

you have to turn down the opacity to get it to darken. it's not meant to emulate paint. if you're using a tablet, try turning on the opacity jitter in the brush settings to "pen pressure," and the flow jitter as well. blending with PS is about low opacity and soft brushes.

OH YEAH. That's what you have to change. Lower the FLOW setting (right next to opacity). Then you will get a build up of pigment when you double over a spot with a single stroke.

No one around here ever seems to post hardware. So, I guess I'll post some hardware. Maybe two more overlays of this to go, adding functionality and adjusting the form language. Ballpoint on marker paper.

Lots of construction lines left around from building the wheels and treads, so sorry if that's a little murky. And the scan is horribly cropped.
