    Look, I love Bill Murray.

And enjoyed every other movie that Wes Anderson ever made.

But the entire time I watched The Life Aquatic, I kept asking myself when it was going to get funny. Or when watching this movie was going to pay off.

And that shitty CG for the sea life really rubbed me the wrong way.

Defender, why is it that movies like Garfield are allowed to exist while much better concepts are aborted on the drawing board?

    $

Wait, that is way too short for me.

Because movies are too popular; talent, in terms of actors, directors, CG work, or whatever costs money in proportion to how much money can be made. But making a movie with top-tier people means that the movie has to make a shitload of money to be able to justify itself economically, so you can't make awesome films with dudes like Bill Murray unless you have deep pockets.

Bill Murray himself tries to remedy this by doing stuff like working for half price on projects that he thinks are really good, like Rushmore. But then he goes and makes Garfield because he has an income to earn and mouth-breathing asstards will go and see Garfield and pay nine bucks for it and probably eat a large popcorn and guzzle a large soda, despite that it's a ton of popcorn and half a gallon (64 oz, I'm not even exaggerating this one) of soda. And they'll take their fat, stupid families with them.

The problem is, as I said, one of popularity; while great actors like Bill Murray would be much more rare if movies weren't a vehicle to stardom and fabulous wealth, movies that totally suck donkey dick would also be more rare. Popularity practically requires an appeal to the lowest common denominator, because it takes an incredible amount of vision, skill, and luck to make something that's actually good and interesting but is also enjoyable to the common retard.

worst movies i've seen lately are probably the fountain and lady in the water. fuck both of those.

the fountain is up there with tarnation as one of my least favorite movies.

If you've seen Cabin Fever then Hostel is a lot easier to appreciate. I dont see how its a horrible movie, like at all, unless you just dont like horrors. I mean, at the very least it was nothing like what i expected. I dunno, im a sucker for it.

Also on that note, Silent Hill was simultaneously the best and worst film i've seen all year, I both hated and loved it. Seriously midway through you can almost hear them wrestling the director from his chair and spending the rest of the film fucking the first half over. I heard it had a lot of problems with editing and stuff, like it seemed like the kind of thing where 20 or so producers and backers would all be pitching in with requirements. And the acting was awful.

    the movie was freakin' awful.
and for someone who's played the games (partly, at least), all i could do was see how hard they were trying to make it like the games -- which was their major ERROR.
games are GAMES they are not movies.

I mostly just hated it because nothing happened to any of the characters. The guys were assholes at the beginning of the movie and stayed that way through the end. There was no point to anything I had sat through.

I guess I'm not huge into horror anyways, especially the more recent "OMG GORE" ones, which didn't help it. Still, Hostel is pretty high up on my most hated list.

i liked when they tried to explain stupid game mechanics within the reality of a movie. i'm sorry but that flashlight shit makes no sense to watch.
