Hey

My brother, in a bid to get sid meiers railroads working, had to update his motherboard drivers, he installed the wrong ones so when he restarted his pc would not boot up, and he had to go into safe mode. The internet on his pc then stopped working, the problem is that he has lost his motherboard cd so he cannot get the original drivers, so we have been using my pc to search the internet.

We installed some drivers that we were pretty sure were the right ones but the pc does not boot up still, one fix off the web was to update the bios, which we downloaded, but it would not run on his pc!

Does anyone have any suggestions to find out exactly what type his motherboard is without acess to the internet on his pc? Also do you think we would be able to get another cd sent to us from the manufactuer?

Cheers

If you open your case and look at the motherboard, more times than not you'll see the make and model printed right on the board itself. Then all you need to do is go to the website (on your computer) and download all the drivers for that particular board. You can request a CD if you want, but it's much quicker to just download them and transfer them over to your brother's computer.

Best bet is to take off the side panel and look for a motherboard make/model stenciled on it.

Or give us the Make/Model of the computer if it's made my a major manufacturer.

    Ok cheers,

Well we have found out the make and so on and downloaded the right drivers but they still did not work, it still will not boot up, and we cannot update bios which was a suggested fix...

Do you think a format could sort any problems, as the drivers we last tried were definately the right ones!

Potentially it could solve the problems, but you'll lose everything that was on that partition.

Yeah, it sounds like a clean slate might not be such a bad idea right now. If all you've installed are drivers, it should almost certainly fix the problem. I couldn't tell from your OP, but did you at any point flash the BIOS to a newer version? If you did, that may be what's fucking up, and if so, a format won't help. But it sounds like all you did was change drivers.

As Ruckus said, you'll lose everything on that partition/hard drive, but it sounds like there's not much else that's working right now.

WE formatted it in the end and that solved all the problems, his pc was pretty messed up so he had to format it sooner or later anyway!

    Thanks for the help!
