So it's that magical time of the year again, where we talk about horror games.
There isn't much coming out this year. People will have to help me out with what to place in the OP.
Upcoming horror games:The Grudge (Oct 27):
From wikipedia:
"Ju-on: The Grudge, known in Japan as Kyōfu Taikan: Juon (恐怖体感 呪怨, lit. Sensation of Fear: Curse Grudge?) is a graphic adventure video game developed for the Wii video game system. It is an adaptation of the Japanese horror film series Ju-on directed by Takashi Shimizu,[1] who also helmed the original films. The game was developed by feelplus and published in Japan by AQ Interactive on July 30, 2009. An October 27, 2009 release in North America by Xseed Games is planned, while the game's European port by Rising Star Games has only been slated as set for October."
Silent Hill: Shattered Memories (November 03):
From wikipedia
"Silent Hill: Shattered Memories is an upcoming video game in the Silent Hill series. It is a reimagining of the first game in the franchise."
Fragile (Feb 16, 2010):
Horror games that came out this year:Cursed Mountain
From Wikipedia:
"Cursed Mountain is a survival horror adventure video game for Wii developed by Sproing Interactive, in collaboration with, and published by Deep Silver Vienna. It was released on August 25, 2009 in North America. The game focuses on a mountaineer searching for his lost brother in the Himalayas."
The Path
From wikipedia:
"The Path is a 2009 horror personal computer game developed by Tale of Tales for the Microsoft Windows operating system and later made available for Mac OS X by TransGaming Technologies. It is inspired by several versions of the fairy tale Little Red Riding Hood, and by folklore tropes and conventions in general, but set in contemporary times. The original Windows version was released on March 18, 2009 in English and Dutch. The player can choose to control one of six different sisters, who are sent one-by-one on errands by their mother to see their sick grandmother. The player can choose whether to stay on the path or to wander, where wolves are lying in wait."

Hey I made a game, check it out @

I'll update pics and stuff once I get to a computer (this is via my phone) but man - that game had new monsters I wasn't familliar with, a unique story and a very cool sounding control scheme. It sounded like a brand new survival horror story and I was so ready for it.
I'm going to play Condemned 2 starting at midnight soon and scare the shit out of myself.
Apparantly not.
Also The Grudge is coming out this year, Dead Space: Extraction already did, Darkside Chronicles is on the horizon and, sometime, The Calling.
Wii seems to be the horror console right now.
Yup thanks I'll try to add this to the OP.

I haven't heard about the death, but it scores you based on that. Sounds like a horror-party-game.
As a party game, I can see people mocking each other over their wuss-meter scores. And I'd definitely be counting the 20 seconds in my head after somebody used one of the effects on me.
Nowadays you don't often see games where the whole point is running around fighting werewolves and vampires and frankensteins and swamp things. Nowadays its all about zombies and notzombies, and as much as I love them, I want to kill something else. This is one of the reasons I'm looking forward to the new Castlevania. There's bound to be a bunch of different monsters in that.
The first episode at least. The others, not so much.
I pretty much did that last year. This year, unfortunately, is pretty dry and games like Brutal Legend and Uncharted 2 are coming out.
Man I wish the new Silent Hill was coming out this month.
I'm really hoping they do this around Halloween-time.
That would be cool. I need a dual shock version of 2. I have to wonder how they will handle the disc switch start, where one disc would give you claire, the other leon.
Also,
And Dino Crisis was freakier than RE. Mainly because zombies don't scare me, they be slow, so I only really got freaked out when Hunters and Lickers started showing up.
Dinosaurs? They're all fast or sufficiently huge.
Nah, that won't happen. PS1 Classics on PS3 are direct ports of the original CDs; the menus, everything is exactly the same as sticking the disc in.
Horror games! No thread is complete without mention of Vampire: The Masquerades: Bloodlines: Colons's hotel sequence. Holy crap.
The sewer level was also pretty horrifying.
But for all the wrong reasons though.
I miss the candy.
Though I suppose as an adult I can go to the store and buy all the candy I want.
I live on the fifth floor. The only people who would come here to trick and treat are people who live in the building, which is moot because we're hosting the halloween party for everyone.

Yeah I've played through Eternal Darkness through way too many times. I think its partial because its not a very long game. If you know what you are doing I think you can get it down to 5 hours or so.

This looks incredible. I love the mirror's edge opening doors animation. And the overall atmosphere of suspense... Though I hear it's pretty easy, so none of the QTEs are particularly difficult, and the thoughtful ghosts scatter batteries for your flashlight everywhere. Still might be the most amazing single-player party game ever. Anybody planning to get this tomorrow?
Hmm I don't know how I feel about that gameplay video. I think I will wait for the reviews on this one.
Liking the mannequins, and the flashlight battery mechanic.
I also wish Nanashi no Game had got an English-language release.
Was really interested in that one.
I couldn't get past the translation. I got to a point in that game where I have no idea what I am suppose to be doing.
Have you? Can you tell us about it?
Most of the games from the OP aren't really that scary/good though.
Well excuuuuuse me... princess.
I'll put extraction up there, eventually.
It's a slow year for horror games.
